Smiled: I applied yesterday for a reference librarian position in Harker Heights, TX, just south of Fort Hood, and by the end of the day they had called me back. I had a phone interview this morning which went fairly well. I have to get in some paperwork, but that shouldn't be an issue.
Frown: I may have to drive to Texas for the second interview. Time to get the oil changed on my car.
Smile: I may have to drive to Texas for the second interview. If I get the chance, I might try saying hello to some of you guys.

This is just a general pet peeve that has been pissing me off a lot lately, but I get really irritated when people say "I have no sympathy for ______" whenever they get all judgmental, superior, and uppity about a topic. It's such a dismissive and uncaring phrase. It doesn't take much to have sympathy and compassion for others. Your ability to care is not a limited resource, though it may be a precious one. And it's precisely because it is both precious and unlimited that this bothers me.
I don't know why people wear the "zero sympathy" phrase like a badge of honor. You can still disagree with someone's actions and have sympathy for them. It doesn't mean that you condone what others do simply because you can sympathize with their plight. Just because a person makes an unintelligent decision or is a criminal doesn't mean you have to close your heart to them just to make a point. The world is a better place when people care about each other, including the ones they disagree with.

Is it okay if I have zero sympathy for rapists, terrorists, and child abusers? * elbow nudge*

I think the ZERO SYMPATHY phrase typically comes from a want to make a clear stand against something they are seeing, hearing or reading. Like most things in text, it is often hard to get all the nuances out there, so to get to the crux of the point, clearly defined phrases are used.J T wrote:Smile:

However, I would agree with your point to a much greater degree if you swapped sympathy for empathy.
With that said, JT, you are great and kind soul and we absolutely need folks like you to keep being who you are. We are certainly better for it.

Noise and CRT are number one...
Xeo, Bone, Hobie (when he doesn't send me warnings), Yoshi (even though we started off on the wrong foot), Bruno, Zing (gotta love his cynism), Lisa, Anthony (the local Dreamcast nut), Curly, Azn (the Khmer connection), Apple, Sevin, o.pwuaioc and Boring are all runner ups. I'm sure I've missed a few though...
Oh yeah. How could I forget Luke, Poopoo and Niode...
That last part was a joke...
