Atari Lynx VS Sega Gamegear.
I have noticed threads before comparing the gameboy to its competition but I rarely ever see ones compering the competitors to each other, no I am not thinking of getting a game-gear, just curious. So I decided to create one. So what do you guys think, Lynx vs Game-gear how do they compare to each other, what are each ones pros and cons. What do you guys think.

Re: Atari Lynx VS Sega Gamegear.
Both systems are fat, ugly, clunky, and drain batteries like a boss. I prefer using Game Gear and Lynx emulators as opposed the real thing, which is never a good sign.
The Game Gear has a vastly superior game library. Columns, Power Strike 2, Psychic World, Vampire: Master of Darkness, Shining Force: The Sword of Hajya, Defenders of Oasis, Streets of Rage, Fantasy Zone, and Magic Knight Rayearth 1 & 2 are all pretty decent.
Lynx has Chip's Challenge, a surprisingly decent Rygar port, some Pac-Man games, a Gauntlet game, and two Ninja Gaidens. That's about all I've tried.
At the end of the day, Game Boy owns them both hard.

...and everyone has one...
I'm a Lynx fan. The GG never had the visual impact i saw in the Lynx. I think is was due to the fact the screen could act as a TV, everything was blurry and "RF" looking. GG could play SMS titles and was about the same power as one. I have nothing but love for SMS but let's not fool ourselves...it's SMS. It was already 3-4 years old and never that succesful in the states.
The scaling and all the specs made the Lynx look more impressive by comparison. Atari also had the arcade titles to port to make a splash on the shelf. Unfortunately, a lot of them just are too much for the little handheld to handle. Plus no Tetris made the GB own all.
Lynx games that sold me(and I own): Cali Games(I cannot get enough Surfing!), Blue Lightning, Joust, Klax, Ninja Gaiden, Xybots, Rygar, T-tris, Raiden, Zorlar, Toki, Rampage.

Even better, how about Atari Lynx vs. Sega Game Gear vs. NEC Turbo Express?
Other than the lack of rotation and not-as-good scaling, the Turbo wins by a mile (include PC Engine games, and it wins by a decamile). You can even play Atari 2600, 5200, 7800, Jaguar, SMS, Genesis/CD/32X, Saturn, DC, PC Engine w/Arcade CD games, PC-FX, NES, SNES, N64, GCN, Wii, Neo Geo, 3DO, PS1, PS2, PS3, X-Box, X-Box 3DO and FM Towns games on it.
It is also future compatible, as most any system coming out in the future with composite video out can be played on this wonderful and diverse handheld. That even beats the Game Boy (or should I say Game GIRL, haha) by a kilomile.
Here, you can see that you can hook up any system you want to the Turbo Express/PC Engine GT (seen on the right side of the photo)*:

Even better is the PC Engine LT. You can even add CD-ROM capabilities to it and play up to 5-players at the same time wish one convenient screen. NO other handheld can do ALL of those things!

*Yes, that is a while MODEL 1 Saturn with the oval buttons. Yes, they exist!

Re: Atari Lynx VS Sega Gamegear.
The Lynx library was always underwhelming to me. Sega just had Atari beat there when these systems were out.

So Breetai when's the wedding between you and the PC-engine again? I somehow missplaced my invitation.

But hey, at least he's raising awareness about the PCE. Heck, before Breetai, I probably wouldn't have given it a second thought. Now, though, I'm starting to look into it seriously. (Still down on my list of consoles still to get, but it's at least there now!)

When I got mine, I was pleasantly surprised by it. However, I am not a shmups fan, and lack of rpgs is a deal breaker for me with the system.Breetai wrote:Yes, it really is. It is that good.BoneSnapDeez wrote:lol yes, the PC Engine is good but not that good.
