I liked the prequel. I don't see how it could've been done better...

By the way, The Thing (1982) was a remake of The Thing From Another World (1951).

The 1951 movie itself is based on the 1938 story Who Goes There?

It's not really a true remake though, more like it was heavily influenced by it.

EASILY the Friday the 13th series. It was more low-budget horror for the first few films, so it got away with more. Then after that, it just stuck. I don't really remember all that many boobs in the Nightmare series. All I can think of off the top of my head is the naughty-nurse scene in Nightmare III and the waterbed scene in Nightmare 4 when the dream starts as a dirty dream.

And now we're getting a remake of The Thing. Is there really so much sci-fi out there that they couldn't come up with something original rather than a movie that is essentially the 3rd version of film?

The 1982 movie follows the 1938 novella Who Goes There? more closely than the 1951 movie.
