Bullet Soul impressions

Post by shallowgamer »

Finally plunked down the cash to get a new copy of this X360 shooter. It came out during the cluster of akai kitana shin, eschatos, muchi pork, etc, and it got very little love when compared to these other games.

It's a "bullet hell" game, in the respect that it mimics the insane patterns made famous by Cave. But this game is much more manageable than a Cave shooter. Since I'll forever be a novice, I find it enjoyable. Seasoned folks will probably be unsatisfied. The folks on the shmups forum have collectively turned their noses up at it, due to its simple scoring system and "wannabe" approach to mimicing a Cave vert.

So the system rewards you by getting up in your enemies' business. On top of that, their bullet patterns disappear when you defeat them, so it's really in your best interest to get up close and get rid of them before they spray the screen with bullets. Staying back will give you a more traditional experience where you're dancing around bullet patterns. The third character in the lineup is built for this system. His shooting type almost resembles a "melee" weapon.

So I find it's a decent region free release, if you've already played deathsmiles and the raiden games on your US system.

My impression of Bullet Soul...

I enjoyed the demo and was very excited to purchase it. Bought it from rancor. Play for 1 hour. THIS GAME IS BORING. Seriously, one of the most boring shmups I have ever played. Scoring system is incredibly "bleh" too. Sold it the same evening.

That's all.
My B/S/T thread! :)

And you know, I waited MONTHS for someone to unload their used copy on ebay (at a decent price). After the lackluster reviews I thought I could get a used one. Owell.
