Retarded aim assist which is a massive hinderance, with no ability to turn it off. Slow laggy controls. I know it's running at 30FPS but this is ridiculous. There are some serious issues with input lag in this game. I dread to think just how unplayable the multiplayer is...

Just got to the 'ship graveyard' forget what chapter that is... Progress is slow because of the total bullshit shooting mechanics. The combat is basically just 'mash buttons until win' like the previous titles. Basically S,S,S,S,S,S,S,T,T,T,T,T,T, x Infinity will win every single hand to hand confrontation in the game. Zero improvement there.

I don't know if it's because I'm not very far in the game but there hasn't really been a part of the game where I've truly gone 'Wow'. There's a few minor events that impressed me such as the burning chateaux in France, but even then it hasn't really impressed me as much as say the train section or just after the train crash with the snow, so far.
I am exactly where you are and my thoughts are basically the same. I think that I'm enjoying it a bit more, though.

I'm liking that they've fleshed the characters out a bit more, especially Sully. Elena... Meh, my thoughts on that character are still pretty much the same. Chapter 16 now... I'm also saddened by the fact that Chloe has about 10 lines in the entire game so far. I liked her in Uncharted 2, especially because she's voiced by Claudia Black.

Also, thanks to the all the promotional work I know exactly what's going to happen next... I hate that. I loved being surprised at every turn with Uncharted 2. Don't get me wrong, it's a technical marvel. Some of the effects and, jesus, that lighting engine is probably one of the finest this generation (on consoles). But some things should be kept secret, rather than revealing a major plot point before the damn game has even been released.

It's unbelievable how much they've squeezed out of the PS3. This is a developer who knows their machine inside out and are pushing it to its absolute limits (even if they are cheating by using pre-rendered cutscenes a lot of the time). It's nice to see sharp, defined shadows with a real sense of dynamic range. Instead of the murky, staircased jarring shadows in a lot of third (and first!!) party games on the PS3.

It will be interesting to see what this dev team can pull out next generation, if this is anything to go by.

Dunno if you would be able to get it since you use custom firmware, but a patch for the aiming is coming. Some members from neogaf got to go test it out / give feedback on the 4th. Also suprisingly, the aiming problems present in the single player are not present in the multiplayer (aside from the aim assist, which is really only a problem when sniping in multi).

Patches have been released before that we can still use. We just have to update manually (ironically, it's faster than the automatic one you OFW people are forced to use). GT5 has been updated many many times and it updates just fine, as long as you know what files to overwrite.

Just wrapped it up, and I can say that the second half is better than the first half in my opinion. It is better paced, there's more gunplay, some interesting twists and turns, and generally the fun factor goes up quite a bit. The aiming and shooting is still not as smooth as in the previous game, but after a while that ceased to bother me as I was more or less using explosive ammo or sniping from a distance. As long as I wasn't stuck using a handgun or machinegun from close-medium range, all was smooth.

Anyway, I had expected it to be GOTY material...while it is certainly excellent and one of the best of the year, I am not sure that it is as good as the previous game or that it will be the best this year.

Damn is it pretty, and damn does it sound amazing, though.

Think we finished this at the same time, I finished it yesterday morning, I have to agree with you, the game seriously picks up a frightening pace once you get on the ship. I massively enjoyed it after that point. The desert wandering was odd, bit of a pointless addition really. Perhaps it was just there to tick an item off a long list of technical achievements.

The end boss fight... Really? Even Uncharted 1 had a better boss fight than that. What a disappointment. At least it wasn't the ridiculous boss fight from Uncharted 2 (that fucker was ridiculously cheap on Hard). I also find it odd that they didn't do anything with Ramses, a big battle on a sinking ship would have been pretty awesome.

So I take it no one plays online? Cause I would really like someone to party up with sometime.

Oh, also, the patch came out a week ago. Added a new aiming option in the options menu, fixed a bunch of bugs, added the cutscene viewer, added motion blur, and tweaked the multiplayer recoil / stopping power to make it more balanced.

I would, but I would not touch PSN even if you paid me.
