Haha yeah, so many people in general that don't understand levels. I was making a mixtape from my vinyl a long time ago and finding the loud spots in the song and adjusting the level with the monitor and my friend asked me why I wasn't setting it to where the meter was filling all the way up.

Outside of video games, boy did I drop some dumb coin on DJ equipment during college. That, and I sucked at mixing, scratching, and spinning. If I ever did anything close to awesome, it was mixing a Halloween album with Prodigy on Vinyl, which was basically Prodigy with "Boos!" and wolf howls. BUT! I did manage to ruin several record needles, piss off my Father by doing so, and that was enough inspiration to be a better DJ.

Turns out I should stick to the piano.


That in mind, I really, really respect actual DJ's on turntables. Not the cd kind of turntables, like, actual DJ's. That's a skill, only learned at that. Being average at DJ'ing is just that, average, but like a comedian, the ones who can connect with a crowd is something amazing to see. Nothing like a really nerdy kid who turns out to mix the Beastie Boys with Aphex Twin and makes the crowd go crazy.

I'm in way late on this one, but I'm glad to see the discussion was had. I hate people who run into the red. I own all my own equipment (several turntables, mixers, PA system) and when people clip into my PA I'll walk up and turn their shit down myself.

This was me at the prelims for a yearly DJ contest recently. I took 6th of 30 last year, and in the prelims this year I was in the top 4 of 30 contestants. I took it pretty easy on the turntablism for the prelim round, saving some more technical scratches and such for the final round of the contest this spring. I was one of only 3 left who aren't using CD decks or a digital vinyl system that aids in beat matching (just good 'ol vinyl).

for many of us that were kids in the 80's We enjoyed many cool things..

One of these were Garbage Pail Kids trading cards.

Here in this link an art show and artists gave us new pics based on those crazy,weird, and just plain bizzare 80's property!
