I thought Galaxy looked amazing on my SDTV. Glad to hear it looks good on an HDTV though, can't wait to get a Wii again someday.

D'oh! I completely forgot about using a shield to parry! I did get some beat down by the lizards in the volcano area. I have always had my shield equipped (is there a reason not to?) but I forgot I could use it to deflect hits.

If you deflect the hit your sheild doesnt take damage either.

Might as well get my initial gripes out of the way so I can hopefully sing this game's praises in my next post

What ever happened to Zelda games starting with a bang? Remember waking up in the middle of a storm in Link to the Past and then going to a castle and fighting your way through the enemies to start the game. I'm sick of this, "you wake up in some stupid village and talk to a bunch of stupid people" crap with modern Zelda games

Do the flying parts get better than that stupid first one? I really hope so

Wii motion control sucks. I see no reason why they couldn't offer the classic controls as an option.

Zelda sure is annoying. I'm rather tired of pushy, bossy, uber critical females in japanese games. She acts like Link's mother. Can we drop that trope?

How interesting would it be to play a Zelda game with an adult Link for a change? A guy in his late twenties or early thirties. Oh that's right, it's Japan. Every game must be a coming of age story for some young kid

Game's pretty meh so far. I hope it'll start getting really good whenever I hit my first dungeon. I just came off Batman Arkham City. There's a game that knows how to grab your attention right from the get go. Zelda games are starting to feel like games made by boring, old men

It's been this way since Link's Awakening in 1993 dude.

I'm really enjoying Skyward Sword. I haven't liked a Zelda game since LttP and Minish Cap. I could never get into Twilight Princess and I tried several times. I'm working through the desert on the way to the 3rd dungeon right now (how similar to LttP lol). I really like the motion controls for the sword fighting. It really allows for different swings and I like how you need to swing differently depending on how enemies are defending. This is going to be the first Zelda game in a long time that I'll actually complete!

I know this will sound like the same thing people said for the last few Zelda games, but most of what you complain about goes away once you get to the first dungeon. The difference here is that it only takes a couple hours to get to that point (if you are slow), unlike the many hours I wasted on Twilight Princess getting to the same point.

I do agree that the game is just a little too "japanese-y". I mean, listen to Link's sounds. He sounds far more Japanese here than he ever has before. It's almost caricature.

The game is also extremely gamey. It makes me wonder if the writers for the story and the designers of the game even saw each other's work. You spend the first three dungeons supposedly following Zelda from place to place. Okay, so why the hell am I the one who has to push boxes around, blow up rocks, find hidden paths, activate ancient robots, etc… Did Zelda just magically teleport past all these enemies, traps, and obstacles? If I am following her, then the path should be totally clear.

The game makes it pretty clear that zelda is using a method to get around which is rather different to yours.

I'm interested to hear where in the script it makes this clear.

If she is able to get around so easily, then why is she moving so slowly? She already left for the volcano by the time I reached the end of the forest temple. I go do some odd jobs then laboriously enter the volcano, reach the earth temple, endure a long trial and battle with a flaming monster, only to reach the end and find Zelda still standing there? What the hell was she doing all that time? Shopping for shoes?

"Purifying herself in the water" or something.

It's a game that features a society that's entirely isolated and self sufficient despite the only crop around seemingly is pumpkins. How do they make clothing? Why does an isolated society have a military anyway?

Zelda just diddling around until you catch up to her is the least of the goofy nitpicks with the story I have. Hey at least it makes more sense than Twilight nobody-notices-the-big-orange-pyramid Princess.

But hey, it's Zelda, you don't play Zelda for the story, and truth be told I've found myself caught up in the drama plenty and enjoying it quite a lot for what it is.
