really? I thought you loved JRPGs? Even I am leaning towards playing this one, and I haven't played previous Xeno titles (other than the first hour or so of Xenogears). They are not related/sequential - sort of like FF titles in that regard. I figured you'd be all over this one...

Oh, and I found Project Rainfall to be a bit of a joke, and it certainly had little or nothing to do with the decision to localize.

I am a fan of JRPG's, but I'm not one to jump into mid-series though. Like I said earlier, I'm far more prone to play Xenogears and work my way up than to just start with a late entry. I'm also just not that interested in collecting Wii games anyway. Physically, the Wii is setup as sort of a "party console" -- in the living room on the big screen and mainly used for light gun games and Netflix; not set up to comfortably play a 30+ hr RPG.

That's how things used to be at my house: the Wii was in the living room so my wife and her fiends could play Wii bowling or whatever. Then one day I said "Eff this I'm taking this Wii into the gameroom so I can play some Tales of Symphonia and Muramasa." And it hasn't returned to the living room since. :P I still stand by my opinion that the best games of this generation are on the Wii. Such a good system.

I get the other excuses, but this one seems off the mark.

if they stand on their own, that's cool. I'm still more likely to check out the first game first though -- not for story, but for history. If I get a chance to try games in a series in linear fashion I try to do so, more for seeing how the games progressed (graphically, intereface-wise, etc) than for story.

Besides, I've always heard Xenogears is great. I think it was an early TR game, from before I joined the site.

it was, in a double bill with Solar Jetman of all games when the club was trying out a different structure: http://www.racketboy.com/together-retro ... gears.html and http://www.racketboy.com/together-retro ... etman.html

yeah I think Xenogears and Lunar are the two games I'm most bummed about not being around for. Would've been fun to play those with the crew.

Xenogears is definitely a solid game that no JRPG fan should miss, but yeah, if I'm not mistaken Xenoblade has absolutely nothing to do with Xenogears/Xenosaga. They just put the "Xeno" title in as a sign of respect for the director's work.
