New (to me) SNES on HDTV problems

Post by fuctfuct »

I just got a pretty mint SNES today :D

On my shitty 20' normal TV it plays fine.. but on my main TV (Toshiba 37AV500U HDTV) it has random sound glitches and subtle framerate issues.

Guess i'm just wondering if this is normal for SNES and HDTVs? I have a PS3, 360, Wii, Xbox, N64 and SNES hooked up to it now and the SNES is the only one showing these problems. Right now i'm using the N64s composite cables since the SNES only came with RF.

Thanks

I never noticed that on any of our HDTV's but my Genesis gets a blue bar on the right side of the screen which is very annoying, it doesnt matter if I show it in 4:3 or 16:9 I get that bar.

To be honest its hard to notice. It's very subtle and i had to let the intro screen for marioworld play for a while to get my girlfriend to even notice the sound glitches. It's not a huge deal i just wanted to get down to just one TV and this TV is new so it makes me want to return it (which is a pain in the ass).

Maybe i'll try RF  ... Composite already looks pretty bad lol

be sure to have the TV display any older systems in there original 4:3 format or ull get some ugly pixilization.

it's an HDTV, if you dig around these forums you'll see posts by myself explaining this in more detail.

But yeah, your image is getting upscaled and converted to digital (as that is a LCD display). Due to this taking a few milliseconds per frame the audio needs to be delayed so it still syncs. Thus the sound glitches and the framerate issues. It must have a really shitty upscaler in it. Changing to RF will hardly make a difference.

Hmm.. Thanks for the info. I thought it's upscaler was pretty good as SD TV looks great. Guess not! lol .. I guess I'll be keeping an SDTV around for a while longer then :(

What should i search for to find those old threads of yours?

I couldn't tell you really... look through my posted replies and any time you see something REALLY long winded and enormous. It probably is about video. Or it could be me ranting about how much I hate people. Or well... meh. Read em' all. It'd make me happy!

It's mostly in threads where it is relevant. I know the most recent one (about a month ago) was in a thread about A/V receivers.
