Re: Let's have a western animation thread
Well, Rocko's Modern life was more college humor where the first two seasons of Ren & Stimpy was just mature slap stick humor. I strongly emphasize the first two seasons from the rest because 3rd season and beyond were completely different if you get into the nuts and bolts of the style of humor and so forth. They also charged Ren's character from being a complete jerk to just psycotic crazy and not so mean. Also John K did the voice of Ren in the first two seasons.
Have any of you seen the banned cartoon of Ren & Stimpy featuring George Liquor American? It's called Man's Best Friend, very good episode and quite psycotic.
I know this is like 15 years later but have any of you seen the Adult Party cartoons?

My thoughts of how dirty Rocko's Modern Life was: The restraunt was called Chokey Chicken...
Ren and Stimpy? Uncle Weezleteets.

In some of the later episodes where they were talking about chicken in Ren & Stimpy where they were talking to the inbred redneck family trying to sell their chicken the brother/pa said about the chicken "choke mine please!!"The Last Horseman wrote:My thoughts of how dirty Rocko's Modern Life was: The restraunt was called Chokey Chicken...![]()

I think they were both really good shows and are still good when you get older as little children won't get the more mature jokes but they still have slapstick to keep the child entertained so it's a win win on both sides.

I can't agree with this. There's nothing "slapsticky" about Space Madness. The dialogue especially sound like the true ravings of a madman. Anthony's Dad? Only the end was slapstick. Nurse Stimpy? Political connotations strewn throughout? There was much, much more to this show than simple "mature" slapstick.AdamGomez1987 wrote:the first two seasons of Ren & Stimpy was just mature slap stick humor
George Liquor, AMERICAN! Great episode. No reason why it should have been banned.Have any of you seen the banned cartoon of Ren & Stimpy featuring George Liquor American? It's called Man's Best Friend, very good episode and quite psycotic.
"I'm the pitcher, you're the catcher." A few chuckles, but overall was little more than homoerotic humor.I know this is like 15 years later but have any of you seen the Adult Party cartoons?

Yeah. I agree. I've got the episodes and the George Liquor ep. It's funny, and they beat him with a log or something, but it's definitely not something that needed to be banned.o.pwuaioc wrote:

Back to talking about Spongebob though, I do like the show but there are some things in there that are definitely for adults. There's one episode, a TV movie, I think called "Atlantis Squarepantis", and they got David Bowie to play a character named "Lord Royal Highness", and then proceeds to tell the boys to call him "LRH." LRH is what Scientologists call L. Ron Hubbard.
Also, theres an ep called "All that Glitters" where Spongebob gives up everything including his house and his clothes to own a brand new high tech spatula, called Spatula 3000, or something. Anyway, the spatula has AI in it, and it decides it's too 'good' for menial labor. When Spongebob tries to flip a burger, it 'bends', as a cartoon would normally do... but it ends up like this.. I thought it was pretty hilarious:

Good points good points, you caught me, but I don't believe Ren was the same character after the first two episodes from how psycotic Ren became. For me the show had a different feel. I think in the later seasons they started emphasizing more on slapstick, they had an episode dedicated to Stimpy being in a union..lol
And as for Slapstick for space madness, Mr. Salesman was smacking Stimpy's head with his butt at the end of the episode before he pressed the button..lol
Anthony's dad was pretty funny, the only slap stick I can think of was the end as you mentioned and the middle when Anthony met the bully.
As for Nurse Stimpy, was there more to the episode than meets the eye because I haven't seen that one in a long while.

I didn't notice anything political about Nurse Stimpy. What exactly was political about it?o.pwuaioc wrote:I can't agree with this. There's nothing "slapsticky" about Space Madness. And for the record, Adult Party Cartoon is awful.

No, not political about Nurse Stimpy, I meant politics strewn throughout the show. Powder Toast Man as president, the horse as a member of the UN, the commentary on Hollywood with the Muddy Mud Skipper show...examples abound.BoringSupreez wrote:I didn't notice anything political about Nurse Stimpy. Ahh, Powder toast Man through the Constitution of the United States and the Declaration of Independence in the fire and watched it burn right there on the top, I'm guilty of cracking up when I seen that even if it was in poor tasteo.pwuaioc wrote:BoringSupreez wrote: No, not political about Nurse Stimpy, I meant politics strewn throughout the show. I don't remember the commentary, that was around the first episode correct?
Adult Party could have been better, they got Stimpy's voice nailed down, I thought the Altruist episode was good though they could have toned down the gay jokes, but The Black Velvet Portrait of Mexican Elvis was epic =)
The episode of Adult party where Ren goes to see Mr. Horse as a psychologist and spills his childhood only to find out he wasn't a psychologist, but a horse...xD!! that was as very good gag since it stretched throughout Ren's childhood.
My mother loved the episode where Stimpy was pregnant, she used to watch Ren & Stimpy when I was a kid and she told me "I don't know why you thought I wouldn't like it, I thought it was funny! that's exactly how I felt when I was pregnant!"
Re: Let's have a western animation thread
By commentary, I don't mean the John's/Bill's commentary, but the fact that Muddy Mud Skipper was a commentary on Hollywood. The first two episodes make fun of the people making Ren and Stimpy possible.
