It depends on the cables. I don't have official cables, but they are decent, and I'm sure they look just as good. It'll be hard to judge from pics if you're buying online, but if you can get them from a local store you'll be able to inspect the cables before buying them. Some cheap cables have really thing wires, and cheap quality, so they're prone to breaking.

Although I just realized, PS3 uses the same multi out, right? So it's not like Sony brand cables will be hard to find. I just checked, they're $20 new on Amazon. That's compared to the $1-10 some third party cables cost. Some are even less than a dollar on Amazon. Check out these cheap cables for an example. Really thin wires, no stress reliefs. Definitely not worth trying.

  That is a great price!

Agree no need for official Sony cables, any cable that is not poorly constructed is fine. I think the only official branded cable one needs to buy is the Gamecube Component Cables. :D

I got some cheap component cables off of Amazon for $3 and that's including shipping.

They arrived today and, for the price, it's a great cable! For $3 it's pretty well constructed and it does the job great on my SDTV (everything looks fantastic now!). It's definitely cheap and flimsy but it's worth the money I spent on it. :D

I recommend this for anyone trying to find cheap component cables for their PS2 (maybe the PS3 also).

I´d get the official PS2/PS3 ones. Saving 10 bucks and then questioning if you should´ve bought the official ones for better quality? :?
If you have a RGB SCART capable tv or monitor do get the official PS1/PS2 RGB SCART Cable.
This cable is really big and thick. And the image will blast onto your screen crystal clear. Use it for 480i games. the difference between Component and RGB Scart is very notable.
Optimizing PS2 games 480p (progressive) and 240p gsm hdtv

The official ones would definitely be better constructed/last longer. I don't see why it would have better quality. The image is already as sharp as a knife.
