RADIANT MF'ING HISTORIA!!!!!!!

Post by BoneSnapDeez »

This game is the RPG Swan Song for the Nintendo DS. Brilliant writing, believable villians, fantastic battle system, time travel, badass warriors instead of mopey brooding teenagers, hot women, a loligoat as a playable character, multiple endings, huge bosses, no padding, no bullshit. Belongs in the upper echelon of JRPGs along with Final Fantasy VI, Chrono Trigger, Earthbound, Terranigma, Grandia II, Tales of Symphonia, and Skies of Arcadia.

It's made by Atlus: buy it now or buy it later on ebay for $100!!!

Keep hearing a lot about this game. As a big RPG fan, do you think it is that worth playing? For the record, I don't like Chrono Trigger all that much, so let me know if not liking that would mean not likely liking Radiant Historia.

Whoa, an RPG fan who doesn't like Chrono Trigger?! I don't think I've ever met one.

Besides the time traveling plot element, this game isn't that similar to CT.

Two things that might be deal breakers for some people:
- The time traveling element present here works a lot differently than it does in most games. You flip back and forth between two timelines, a "standard" history and "alternate" history. However, unlike Chono Trigger, when you warp to another time period, you don't simply appear. Instead, you may be forced to replay through areas you've already seen, or even watch the same dialogue sequence that already occurred earlier in the game (this part drove me nuts until I realized they were skippable).
- There is a LOT of text and dialogue between the characters. Since it's a DS game there's no voice acting or cut scenes, so get used to looking at lots of pretty 2D anime portraits and text.

I think it's a great game overall. The plot really drives it, it's not the standard "scrappy teenagers overcome their inner demons and save the world" type nonsense, the game is instead focused on an ongoing conflict between two rival city-states and you play as veteran soldiers.

Give it a try!

I don't care for it either. I'm not gonna sit here and say it's a bad game or anything but I was never able to see what's so great about it. Just seems like a standard JRPG to me, all the systems are pretty basic and the game is very easy (although I understand that's one of the reasons people like it, for it's simplicity).

Chrono Trigger is very good, but I also wouldn't put it up on my list of favorites.

I don't hate Chrono Trigger(I love that I can have a robot and frog swordsman in my party), but a lot of it doesn't hold up well for me. Plus, not that big a fan of Akira Toriyama(GASP), so that's probably the main reason I didn't like it.

This game seems pretty sweet though. I should try it out down the line.
