Wait a minute- You're being careful about spending money but you preordered a game for a system you don't have? That doesn't make any sense! I think you can safely assume there won't be a MGS4 shortage when you eventually do buy a PS3.
It's the damn "Limited Edition" that got me. I wouldn't have pre-ordered it in the first place if it wasn't for that. And yes I know it sounds crazy, but MGS is my drug man. Damn you Kojima!!!

For value and games the 360 wins hands down. For media support the PS3 has it. The main reason I have a PS3 is for BD and the odd exclusive like uncharted, ratchet & clank and in future, GT5 and MGS4. In the UK the Premium is usually £180. That's nearly half the price of the PS3 and runs the same games. Anyone buying a PS3 for the games is an idiot.
The rest of the non-PAL world, pricing is pretty much the same (hdd size and free cables not withstanding in price differences). Nothing like a 50quid/$100 difference... That's outrageous.
Personally, the only exclusive game I want on the 360 is Mass Effect and a few XBLA games. Otherwise multiplatform games are on the PS3 that I want and I've read reviews that say there's no significant differences between the titles (except sports titles which I don't play). So with all the RROD and other crap I keep hearing about on the 360, it doesn't seem to be an attractive proposition for me. Elite $450, 40GB PS3, $400. Though they're both too expensive for what they don't quite offer me yet (a very attractive library of titles and reasonably priced hardware).
I would agree that with the pricing in the UK, yeah, it doesn't seem quite right to buy a PS3~ Idiotic? Perhaps not if that's one's taste.
I think that's a good point. You have no idea how different it is in the US. The US the 360 and PS3 are very close in price. I mean $300 for a PS3 thats a steal. That's £150 here.
In the UK, the core 360 is half the price of a PS3. THAT reason alone is why I say buying a PS3 is silly if you want it just for a few games. It's far too expensive in this country.
In the US where the prices aren't that far away from each other it doesn't matter. Get either. It will entertain you just as much as the other. It's the fact that in this country you're getting the same games or at least similar for £150 more. Why would you do that? That's like the choice between buying 2 cars, they're both exactly the same except one has a CD player. Yet the one without has £5000 price tag, and the one with has a £10000 price tag, yet all you have is cassettes.

Ah, okay then. I understand now. Kinda crazy but if that's your thing, what else can you do? I know I've given George Lucas stupid money for the same reason.

60 gigs are full backwards compatability...well i think its 95%...as far as price...a few months ago i was able to justify this...
Wireless for the 360 cost 100$ extra...go price a blue ray dvd player...online play on ps3...FREE...no need for a charge and play kit...the controllers have built in rechargable bats...
Its alot of money but really...its a deal for the built in wifi and blue ray playback....i DID have one...i sold it and about 10 games when i needed some cash. I miss it...now i dont know if i would want a 360 *gears of war 2 preorders are out now arnt they?* Or a ps3...i love hotshots golf...a new tekken is coming at around xmas time...and its free online play.
I am beginning to actively track the prices of a 60gb PS3 on ebay and craigslist. Ideally I'd like to jump on one not long after Sony inevitably drops the prices again this fall or Xmas season. I'm not sure how much it will really affect the 60gb price since its no longer in stores but it's bound to drop somewhat....
I preordered the Gunmetal Gray PS3 limited edition for 670 bones. I don't know if I will regret it later or not. BTW, I am also tracking a 60 and 20 GB PS3 on Craigslist. The lowest I've ever seen for a 60 is 300 dollars. Unfortunately some guy got to it before me. If I can score a 60 or 20 GB, then I might sell the Limited Edition. Why couldn't the damn L.E. be 80GB with BC instead of a 40GB??? Stupid SONY. Stupid KONAMI.
