I was really sad at this news at first, but although Patrice was great around my "circuit" (meaning I played at a club he played at), apparently he was a blatant racist, and was also convicted of and served time for raping a 15 year old (he was 17 at the time, so there is that to consider).
Right now I'm scratching my head on his death and how I feel about it. Patrice was an awesome comic, but also said "white skin is the same as Hitler's mustache to me", "so I fucked a 15 year old, but I had a good judge", and a lot of his statements don't come off as jokes especially when he says without laughter "Black people should be the ones flying planes into buildings, everyday". That said, it's also not fair to judge people by a few statements they make, but Patrice had some pretty strong statements and according to a few friends, Patrice just didn't like white people.
Patrice had an wtf interview that is available online for freebies. Draw your own conclusion (figuratively; no need to draw the word conclusion).

I won't say anything about being racist, but it sounds like he didn't actually rape a 15 year old when he was 17. They probably both consented to it. Do we know if they used a condom or not? It could have been fine. Age isn't everything.
That law isn't always correct. You really need to examine them on a case by case basis. If two teenagers decide together to have safe, responsible sex, that should be just fine.
Same thing with drinking alcohol. The reason we have laws like these is to prevent people from being harmed. So if there was a situation where no one was harmed and everyone involved behaved in a smart and responsible manner, no one should have a problem with it.
And on a similar note, there are many times when 18+ adults fuck up when it comes to sex and alcohol. How come that's perfectly acceptable? Just because their age happens to be over 18? It's so fucked up.
We need to change laws like this to outlaw harm to others, instead of going strictly by age alone.

Interesting that a guy who was racist against white people had also briefly worked on the creative team of WWE..

The girl in question was "gang raped", at least that is what Patrice said. It's a mess, as apparently she wasn't raped, then was asked to get gang raped again but then said no and then it was rape...oh just listen to wtf with marc maron and make your own judgment.Inazuma wrote:I won't say anything about being racist, but it sounds like he didn't actually rape a 15 year old when he was 17. OK, so it may have actually been rape. Not statutory rape. That's very different.Luke wrote:The girl in question was "gang raped", at least that is what Patrice said. Also, sorry if it sounded like I was lecturing you there, Luke. I kinda went off on a rant about poorly implemented laws and idiots who blindly follow them.
Re: What Made you Smile/What Ticked you off Today?
No need to apologize at all. Patrice was convicted of rape, and spent (I believe) 4 months or more in jail. If you listen to the interview, it's kind of creepy. I get a "she wanted it, she deserved it" type feel from Patrice. There's some weird sense of justification, like those a-holes who say "well, she dressed like a slut, so I treated her like one".Inazuma wrote: Also, sorry if it sounded like I was lecturing you there, Luke. But like I said, I know people who worked with him, but I didn't know him personally.

Smiiiiiiiile: Interview with CVS happened today and I nailed it. The manger I spoke with was incredibly nice, my anxiety completely withered, and bam. I think I really impressed her a few times with some questions and when she threw out "How would you describe yourself in one word", I didn't even hesitate to throw out "Confident" immediately and then she kind of joked how people often don't know how to answer that one, or they say "hard worker" which is lame and cliche' (and two words). lol, then she took me on a tour of the place and it seemed great.
I definitely hope this is it folks. My whole family is in a financial crisis with my dad's work slowing down this time of the year, my mom is just always broke, etc... it has to happen!
