I'm gong to have to agree to disagree here big time man. Plus, I just noticed I'm kind of disappointed that half of this list is listing games released in 2000-2001. Link's Awakening was 1993, obviously developers will be able to push the limitations of the handheld overtime (Megaman Xtreme is a perfect example too), but for its time I think Link's Awakening and the original Pokemon games were mindblowing and pretty in depth games for the handheld. There was so much to them and LA completely blows the original NES games away in terms of how much there is to it, though I'm a big fan of them myself, LA looks and plays the best to me next to LTTP.

So, I've been saying that for years and will never stop. I think LA was very ahead of its time and hasn't aged at all.

Actually I think when people talk about video game narrative they really fail to notice just how ahead of its time this game was at making us care for the world we played in. The ending is one of the few video game endings that made me sad.

I love this game; my favorite of the 2d Zelda titles. Heck, I think I'll go pick up on the 3ds VC just to replay it.

Same here. I played the DX version for the first time earlier this year actually and the ending is definitely a sad farewell.

Lost track of how many times I've played the original release, heh. It was always that one game I'd bring for long trips and stuff.

Ok I just sent an email to the guys at the extra credits show (email: [email protected] ) telling them if they think the game is worth covering the next time they talk about game narrative. If you aren't too bored, try sending them an email about it too. I would love to hear their thoughts on the topic, but to also see the game's amazing ending get more exposure.

Mine as well. Was very unique for its time. The inclusion of the side-scrolling portions was brilliant. I also got a kick out of the "platforming" elements that Roc's feather brought to the game. All-in-all Link's finest!

I've always preferred Link's Awakening to alttp honestly. I suppose it's because the narrative has more of an emotional hook.

Link's Awakening also actually set up a lot of ideas that'd later be used in the 3D games too.
