It's silly to say that nicotine doesn't affect the mind quite heavily, it just happens to do it in a fairly different way from most other mainstream drugs. Of all the drugs I've ever taken, it and alcohol are the only two I've ever had a hard time NOT doing.
Also, re-reading the OP, I notice you mentioned salvia...which would be nigh impossible to play video games on. Salvia takes you so far out of your head that it's kinda pointless to even try to interact with something like a game. Never done opium, but I have taken fairly strong other opiates a few times, they make gaming kind of groovy if you find yourself in the mood for it but I basically wind up in a fairly similar head-space as trying to game on mushrooms.

Except smoking cigarettes is completely different than doing drugs. Cigarettes don't f-up your mind, which is what he didn't like about drugs.
Besides the fact that you get addicted to them, cause anxiety and sleep issues, etc.
Nicotine is a drug, and also a powerful pesticide.
Never said they weren't bad for you. I'd be living under a rock if I believed that. Just saying it doesn't mess with your perceptions, cognitive reasoning, memory, and other such things like drugs do. Which is the part Frank Zappa was against because he believed the mind was a precious thing,

But, it does! Ever try to keep a person away from their cigarettes? Nicotine addiction affects both body and mind.

It's pointless to try and game on salvia for other reasons too. Concentrates can make you trip heavily, and from my experience, the non-concentrated plant makes you too giggly and careless to game too. Plus in total the effects lasted about 30 minutes.
