Skyward Sword, thoughts so far?
Re: Skyward Sword, thoughts so far?
A little over 18 hours in and 2 dungeons down now (I think I may be going too slow
) and still enjoying it. I understand the inventory issue people are talking about, but I don't really care about the "sailcloth issue". I guess I'm just not really picky. My only real complaint so far is the Pumpkin mini game. I'm following the instructions, but no matter how slow I move the damn things keep falling
Which wouldn't be so bad if I didn't have to go through the game information every time I failed

at least you only have to do the pumpkin thing once!
This is very true. I'm just past the 3rd dungeon and so far the only time she's more or less outright told me the solution to a puzzle was how to turn the generator key thing to open Lanayru Mines..KDub wrote:Even with Fi's annoying and pretty obvious statements from time to time the game leaves you to do the puzzles and leg work all on your own. If I get stuck on an actual puzzle or fights she is no help at all, I've checked to see what she would say several times.

I found the pumpkin mini game really easy and I didnt go slowly at all. I moved a couple of steps left, then when the punpkins started to tilt, I'd take just one or two steps to the right and it would straighten out again. Just do that the whole way.
Re: Skyward Sword, thoughts so far?
I have reached the volcano area and I have to say that the game is much more enjoyable now. The forest area brought back terrible memories of Twilight Princess, and Midna in particular. Fi actually starts the volcano area asking if you will need further help with dousing and I hope my firm "no" is going to keep her and the blinking "C" icon away for the rest of the game.
I did have another instance of the Fi icon blinking at me for a long time, so I finally decided to see what she wanted. "Your wallet is full".
Despite the fact that the volcano area is still essentially "on rails", I feel like the game is opening up. I can actually fly to some of the islands around Skyloft and the game is slowly allowing me to do what I want to do.
I am sad that the scarab and bomb rolling were spoiled for me by the E3 video. It would have been cool to see those crates hanging from the ceiling for the first time and wonder how to get them down. Another thing spoiled were the spinning eye locks. My media blackout was not complete enough, but that E3 video is the only thing I saw besides the TV commercial!
I had given up on Twilight Princess at this point. However, Skyward Sword is good enough to make me want to keep playing and see what other trinkets and quests I will receive!
Oh, and it also gave me an incentive to buy a used HDTV from Kijiji today. The 16:9 compression on my Sony CRT looked great, but it felt small despite being equal to a 29" TV. Now I have 46" of 16:9 progressive scan Zelda and Skylanders.

Zing just wait till you get your Beetle upgraded. It is my favorite new item since the Bombchu. Even more than the Grappling Hook in Windwaker
Re: Skyward Sword, thoughts so far?
I'll be getting my Japanese bundle copy within the next few days. I should be able to play some on the weekend. I can't wait to start playing this game and see for myself how good it is.
Re: Skyward Sword, thoughts so far?
I had my upgraded wooden shield get burnt up within two minutes of setting foot in the volcano area.

As soon as I'd read the text about wooden shields burning and realized I was going to a volcano area I grabbed me an iron shield.
I just absolutely love going back to Skyloft often just to see what little things all the citizens there get into. There's so many neat character driven side-quests and little stories to find and involve yourself in. They remind me a lot of the sort of little sidequests you had all the time in Majora's Mask, it's great.

Still absolutely enamoured with this game. I already loved the beetle, but once it upgraded to the hook beetle I loved it even more.
Someone up above me mentioned that there's a way to get Fi to shut up, though, is it possible to do that at any time? Also, is it possible to make it NOT go into the menu and add my picked up item every time I start a new game session? That's pretty annoying. TP did that, too.
