Living in British Columbia I have access to a lot of really good drugs, here's what I've played games on:
Weed makes me suck at sports games, awesome at Counter Strike and, in general, will get me super, super, super into whatever I'm doing.I find myself having much more wonderment in what comes next in the game world, and I rarely get so in to a game's plot as when I'm high. My game of choice, though, is Rome: Total Realism. I will sit down to play that game high and sink and entire day into it.
My other big hobby to do while I'm stoned is reading history books, oddly enough. Basically the same reasons, too.
Beer has pretty much the opposite effect, of course. Awesome at sports games, but my twitch gaming takes a hit and I start to suck at Counter Strike. I usually don't play RPGs or strategy games drunk, but load up Assassin's Creed and I'll play for hours.
Mushrooms make for quite an enjoyable gaming experience. I rarely really try for any plot advancement in games, but it makes just running around looking at things pretty exciting. I find myself inferring plot minutiae regardless of whether or not I'm advancing the plot, and the game takes on many aspects that, I'm sure, they were never intended to.
It's not a game, but an example of this goes back quite a few years for me- me and some friends had done mushrooms and Dude, Where's My Car came on TV. We wound up having a multi-hour philosophical debate about the plot. Same thing basically happens with video games. Obviously the visual side of this is fun, too, but mushrooms were always much more of a physical and mental experience to me.
MDMA is OK for gaming if you're playing a game with a good soundtrack, and it's something with a lot of movement in it. Honestly something simple like Tony Hawks or Crazy Taxi works well, but I wouldn't try and play a more complicated game. It's not that you CAN'T, it's just not particularly fun.
As for acid, I can't even imagine trying to play a game on acid. Even trying to type a message or check my cellphone gets frustrating for me. Acid is great to go out and wander around in the real world on, not to sit in your living room and focus on a TV. It makes everything seem even faker than it is if you're not outside.
