I'll usually play the game first, but I always end up going back and reading the book. I agree that it's a part of the entire purchase, and I really get annoyed at game stores that charge the same for a game without a book and they do for one with it. I mean, it's a part of the game. I understand this with some older cartridge games, but for something like DC? You can see the book is missing.

Gamestation is like that here, they make no allowances at all for how complete a game is or what condition its in. Like at the minute they have a complete House of the Dead (Saturn) for £25 and behind the counter they have one that is disk only for £25. Where is the sense in that?

Anyway, I normally read most of the main bits of the manual before I get home but its sometimes fun to try and figure it out for myself. I normally go back after a few hours play to see if there is anything that I've missed or anything useful in the tips section.

I read the entire manual before playing, and then I'll read it again later to make sure I get all the information available.

What I hate is when manuals don't tell you everything. Like in a shooter, I want to know the exact details of scoring and rank...it will appear in a fan-made faq later, but I want to hear it from the designers.

Why is that? It's really annoying to me as well. Maybe then only "true" fans can figure it out.... lame
