have you played it yet, rsg?
I had to first order from Amazon, but then did fine exactly one copy when out shopping through numerous stores on Friday night. I picked that one up as well (will be giving the other as a gift at the holidays) but haven't had a chance yet. I love the RPG elements you described.

Fun game. Arrived today ($20 without adapter). I just finished a mini-marathon (by my standards) of 2hr 45min. There is a lot to this title. That is to say they appear to riff a LOT on the core idea. If you can get in to the basic mechanic of the fishing, and you have any sympathy for 'stamp collecting' design ala Animal Crossing, this is a must get. Mixing in tilt detection of the rod in addition to line tension gives a great edge to the motion control. The graphics are intriguing. Normally I can't get past Mii-style graphics, and this is only a slightly less disproportionate take on that look, but the distant backgrounds and close-up fish textures are almost photorealistic, or close by Wii standards. The areas and architecture don't quite have the imagination and artistry of Skyward Sword, but what does? There are some nitpicks (quest givers - yes, there are quests in a fishing game - borrow the bubble-above-head mechanic but the bubble doesn't change color based on your quest state), and suggestions (good they made the reeling-in sound but why not send it through the Wiimote's speaker?), sure, but I'm quick to judge games and this one is a keeper absolutely.

I've had the game for a couple of days now (ordered from Amazon.com) I purchased the bundle w/ the fishing rod attachment. After some time, my wife and me have decided to just play the game without the attachment. Anyways, I'm addicted to the game and my wife is REALLY addicted to it. She has created her own save file and basically we just take turns going through each day.

We've put in a few hours and we have barely scratched the surface. In fact, we are still primarily catching smaller fish and other random junk (driftwood & seaweed.) We are also working on building our aquarium since more fish and bigger aquarium means more money and visitors. At the same time, we are trying to go through all of the quests that the game offers by talking to the people at the resort. You can even buy outfits and dress your character up which is perfect for the Wife who was once addicted to Style Savvy.

Overall, the game is relaxing, fun, and offers plenty of gameplay for the price. If anyone has the least bit interest, I'd say $20 for the barebones copy is a steal.

Edit: Just wanted to add that the graphics are very nice. I can see some really great texture work on the fishes, especially at a close distance. You can see that Prope made clever choices on the design to really make the game look great.

Nutty that this game hasn't had another review added to Metacritic after the first (Nintendo Power).

If you missed it, enter this code

typrqtyb3

via your hotel room computer for a little unlockable.

Still getting a kick from Fishing Resort, would recommend to just about anyone that likes a little collecting in his gameplay.

Played about an hour last night. I was hesitant to break the accessory so was treading carefully setting everything up - would have been nice if there were instructions on hooking up the nunchuk to the remote as the rod/reel. I did get it of course but was surprised this was non-existent.

I like the mechanics and the mini tasks and boy does eight resorts sound like an extensive game.

I need to upgrade my initial gear - man those Flounders are fighters.

The music when you snag a fish sounds just like the SNL skit "The Manuel Ortiz Show" - where they break into dancing all the time.

^ I wondered if I could put the Nunchuk cord in there. Why was that not in the instructions? I'm not sure i'm using the spacing piece right either. I'm a college graduate - I swear. Bizarre.

Thanks for sharing 8)

Those are pretty complicated instructions. That's terrible if they didn't include them.
