Quirky PS3 games?

Re: Quirky PS3 games?
I played a little bit of Eternal Sonata once. I like the whole premise behind it being Chopin's fantasies on his deathbed and whatnot a lot, but the game itself felt like an awfully generic jrpg to me. Maybe there's just something I'm missing from it.

Imo, I don't like LBP or 3d dot heroes; they feel like bad Mario and Zelda knockoffs to me. I know some say go get them but keep in mind they aren't for fans of the respective franchises.
That said, check out Valkyria Chronicles.

I really wish I had the patience for this. I really enjoyed what I played of it, but couldn't really get myself to stick to it. Kinda the same problem I have with all RPGs nowadays.swiftzx wrote: That said, check out Valkyria Chronicles.

3D Dot Heroes is a Zelda clone and wears that badge proudly. LBP I don't see as a Mario clone at all... But ModNation Racers is an inferior Mario Kart clone.

3D Dot Game Heroes is supposed to be a Zelda ripoff (and it's not a bad one.)swiftzx wrote:Imo, I don't like LBP or 3d dot heroes; they feel like bad Mario and Zelda knockoffs to me. I know some say go get them but keep in mind they aren't for fans of the respective franchises.

If you think LBP is a Mario knockoff you're missing the point of the game. Platforming is only about 30% of that game.
Older. Not wiser.

Some that I remembered:
- Echochrome
A perspective-based puzzle game, inspired on the works of Escher.
- Joe Danger
You're a stuntman and have to clear, get coins and everything in obstacle courses. Very fun.
- Costume Quest
Simple RPG about unlocking costumes and saving Halloween.

first off, 3D Dot Game Heroes may as well be my favorite "Zelda game" since Wind Waker.
LBP is far from a SMB knock-off. It's very unique and charming. I wouldn't wanna hang out with anyone who didn't smile while playing that game.

I don't think you're missing anything, sound like it's just not your game. A lot of the game can feel generic I suppose, but I actually enjoyed the familiarity of the gameplay. It reminded me of a classic JPRG and it lacked all the elements that annoy me about some of the genre's modern games: padding, pointless sidequests and fetchquests, an endless and sprawling (and dreadfully boring) "open world", etc. Eternal Sonata cut all the fat, I felt a sense of urgency while playing it, and most important of all, I continually felt like I was doing something.AppleQueso wrote:I played a little bit of Eternal Sonata once. I also found that it had some of the best PS3 graphics I've ever seen (and by "best" I mean "most aesthetically pleasing to me" not "most technically proficient").

I feel like it's my kind of game.
1. weird story? check!
2. "typical" JRPG gameplay? check!
3. really nice anime style artwork? check!

For what it's worth, even if it was my kind of game I'd probably end up not finishing it anyhow
