All ports closed for utorrent?

Post by Ivo »

Hi guys,

I think I have confirmed I'm not connecting through a router (in fact, I double checked by using the same mobile broadband USB modem I used in my desktop with success - although I'm currently trying it on a wired connection via a Arris TM502A DSL modem <- note it is NOT the TM502B, which is indeed a router).

I checked my public IP address and it matched the one on ipconfig /all

Yet, on utorrent, the ports I try are always closed, and my upload speed is miserable (I'm seeding something to improve my UG ratio).

I tried turning off Windows' Firewall (I'm running XP service pack 2), turned off my anti-virus (AVG free*)...
I went to GRC's ShieldsUp website and scanned the ports, and they are all stealth (which should confirm I'm not giving utorrent a port for incoming connections)...

I don't know what to do, as without a router I can't explicitly forward a port (in fact, I shouldn't need to...)

It is really bizarre and must be something with my laptop, as (I repeat) I tried the EXACT same internet connection as I did on my new desktop (Vista, latest AVG free, which is version 8) and on the desktop it was working.

Ivo.

* I will try putting AVG free 8 on my laptop as well
