Who else tried/bought the Penny Arcade game today?

Post by Mozgus »

I was surprised. I loved the demo. I'd probably be buying it right now, but I heard its only 6 hours long, so I'm thinking I'll just wait for all 4 episodes to be done and get the season that way. I'm just assuming they'll sell them as a package deal eventually like the Sam & Max episodes were.

For those who don't know, the game is a blend the best parts of point & click adventure and jRPG combat. It's set in the 1920's. It features (or will feature) cameos by all sorts of well known PA characters. It blends 3D cel-shaded characters and environments with 2D flash-based dynamic cutscenes that are very impressive. There's a very nice orchestral/jazzy score, too. As you might expect, there's a great sense of humor about everything. Length will probably be the only nagging flaw with the games.

I may take a look. I'm guessing it's available through steam.

The only way to deactivate the ray beam and fight back the vampire alien threat is with a complicated series of foot patterns on the device's control board that looks remarkably like a DDR pad. We will all praise this man for saving our lives and buy him a mountain of stuffed animals.

Nope, it's on XBLA and a proprietary indie thingy. You can also just get it from the developer's site.

It's fun! I like it quite a bit.

Here's the majority of the music in the game. People asked for it on the official forum, (and the admin kinda shoved it aside, probably hoping they'll bite when an OST comes out for sale), but since I believe you have all rights to listen to music on a game you own, (or a demo you downloaded, in this case) here it is.

It just doesnt include music from cutscenes because those tracks have the sound effects embedded. This large track includes the MC Frontalot theme song, plus all other streamed tracks.

I played the demo for the first episode and just couldn't get into it. Would it be right to compare it to Earthbound in a sense? I couldn't get into that game either.

This topic just died. What does everyone think of the game? I'm thinking about downloading it at some point, I found the demo pretty entertaining and an rpg combat system that lets me actually defend myself instead of watching my characters stand there and take hits like morons gets a thumbs up from me. I like those timing based blocks and counterattacks.
