Amiga 2000 for 200$, worth it?
Re: Amiga 2000 for 200$, worth it?
The Amiga is truely amazing but a lot easier to collect for and exploit if you are in the UK. It's library rivals the C64 and the music programmed for some of the software is the best ever created. There are a lot of resources out there for Amiga owners and LOTs of Amiga models too. This one seems a little over priced. At least that's what I think. I bet you could do better if you keep looking.
*I guess what I'm trying to say is without knowing too much about the Amiga although it is a big lot it just might not be a good match. You're right That Psygnosis is a great developer but there's tons of more gems too.
If I may I'd recommend picking up one system and slowly purchase games. For me, getting 200 games at once would mean I play 3 of them and that's it. I've already got a backlog as I'm sure you do too.
Meh - see what other people say.

If you just want to play games I don't think you should get a 2000, and as the 2000 is comparatively scarce its probably more for collectors.

Re: Amiga 2000 for 200$, worth it?
I agree. The A2000 is not the best choice for games, due to incompatibility issues.
What you probably need is a A1200 with a hard drive, extra memory and a copy of Relokick 1.4, this will allow you to play all of the A500 era games plus the dedicated AGA stuff as well.
I have about 10 Amigas, (amostly different), as a kid it was my first upgrade from 8 bit and wow I loved it. I also agree is has some amazing music which I still remember fondly to this day, (mostly through all the graphics demos).
It was and is a truly remarkable machine, which more than holds its own against the Megadrive and SNES.
I wouldnt pay that price though! I bet those 200 games are copies...? If originals, maybe it is worth it, hard to say without knowing what they are...
Good luck.

Re: Amiga 2000 for 200$, worth it?
If you're still interested in an A2000 I could probably get you one for much cheaper than that. One of the computer stores I like to check out has two of them, but they're untested. Specs-wise, the A2000 is about the same as the A500 (which is the Amiga I own), but the A2000 is more versatile as it has several expansion slots, almost like a PC.
