I remember when the 60GB launch units were selling for $600. The average price of any given PS3 was certainly the biggest con for me. That's not so say I couldn't afford one, but I can't justify paying $350+ for a current gen console when I know at some point I'll find a killer deal...not to mention all the retro treasures in the wild for a sometimes nominal fee. Maybe it's a Sony and Microsoft issue? I have no problem purchasing Nintendo consoles at launch. Then again, Nintendo has a nice reputation for thrifty launch prices, spare 3DS.
