I have the key for the second dungeon and I'll be going in there tonight! Still loving it.

I've already spent a good while creeping up on insects, does anybody know what I'm doing this for yet?
The only use I have found so far is to talk to the guy at the potion shop that has the baby on his back, he will take the bugs you catch and power up your potions to make them more powerful.
You can also sell them to the blond haired kid on the first floor of the dorms at night. Prices aren't that good though and what he's willing to buy changes from night to night.

What I'm trying to figure out now is how to obtain another empty bottle. I need to complete side quests damn it!

On a more positive note, I did manage to find 4 pieces of heart to up my heart count :D

Okay, Okay, I fixed my Replies. :oops:

The grey cart versions have some censoring that makes parts of the game lame in my opinion (fire temple chanting). Later versions (like Gamecube) have the same censoring, and maybe a little more if I remember correctly. I also read of bugs in the Cube version.
Whoa, I did not know this. Oh crap, I have the grey cart. Thanks a lot, now I have to keep an eye out for a gold OoT cart.

We've discussed it before I'm sure!

Actually, there's a minority of grey carts that have no censoring, but the gold carts are 100 percent uncensored.

The changes that were made to the game over time were:

-Fire Temple originally had an arabic chant in its background music. This was changed to a generic "aaah aah" sort of thing.
-Ganon's blood was recolored from red to green.
-The mirror shield symbol was changed

Not all the gray carts have all the changes, and iirc the gamecube and virtual console versions have the most changes. I'd still recommend getting the Master Quest disc though if you're fan, since it has a new version of OOT with remixed dungeons.

Not a 'censorship', but the gold cart version also does have a few really cool glitches you can exploit that aren't in the later versions.

Yeah, the grey cart did fix a few bugs which I guess is kinda nice. There's a page some where that will let you know how to determine which version you have by the product code on the label, btw, so you can find out if you have the censored version.

This page lists some of the differences: http://www.platypuscomix.net/interactiv ... hotos.html

The gold cart isn't too expensive, and worth getting to replace the grey cart in my opinion. I had a grey one for the longest time. When I finally started to play it, I was a decent amount of hours into the game before I found out about all the differences. Luckily, I was able to get a gold cart for not too much, and I used a GameShark to transfer the save file from the grey cart to the gold cart.

I remember having the grey cart as a kid and seriously wanting a gold one after I found out about the changes.

I've had OOT off and on countless times, and when I buy it I go out of my way to hunt down the gold one nowadays. It's not much more expensive than the grey one and definitely worth it imo.

Majora's Mask has a few revisions too, but I think all they amount to are some minor text changes.

Does Ocarina of Time 3d have the changes? I assume it does if the GC master quest did.

It has even more iirc, the blood in the shadow temple room with the torture rack is gone now.

Undoing the changes in the remake would make little sense I'd think. Doesn't seem like something Nintendo'd do.

Btw I've been enjoying Skyward Sword. Still in the first dungeon but I only started playing this morning.

It's worth noting that I think the Virtual Console version of OoT was updated to fix the deku nut upgrade glitch a while after its initial release. I can't find any evidence of this online though and don't remember where I heard this though...

Apologies to the OP for the sidequest of Zelda
Thanks for all the Info, especially your link Ziggy. Some really great info with pics! :mrgreen:

This is on my N64 grey Zelda OoT cart Label
NUS-006(-01)(USA)
NUS-CLLE-USA-1

Maybe the part number with the (-01) references version 1.1?

N64 Title Screen
1. A copyright logo: ⓒ 1998 Nintendo

See Quote below, Do the 1.1 cart versions have a different year?: ⓒ 1999 Nintendo

2. Looks like second less shiny logo, two adjacent sides of the N are not silver.
The duller spinning Logo seems to point that my cart IS NOT 1.0. I do see some green in the big N as the pic on the right. The only way to be absolutely sure I guess is play the game and spot the differences. :|

I found another link concerning the revisions.

It is important to be specific when referring to the different versions of Ocarina of Time. In keeping with the established Zelda tradition, pre-ordered copies of Ocarina of Time on the Nintendo 64 featured "gold" cartridges. Also, the game's box was made of sturdy plastic instead of cardboard and exhibited the boxed phrase "Collector's Edition." Gold carts were the first American release of Ocarina and were only offered in a limited number, making them collector's items.

The game also released in different software versions. All of the gold cartridge games that came out in November 1998 are version 1.0, and some grey cartridges released soon after are also version 1.0. Version 1.1 grey cartridges began to be released in early 1999, in which Nintendo fixed a number of bugs and glitches from the first version. This was followed by version 1.2.

The most notable difference between version 1.0 and the following versions is that version 1.0 contains a trick that allows one to play the game without Link's sword, which in turn allows one to use any item on Epona. Version 1.1 is similar to version 1.0 except you cannot perform the above trick (there is a different known method that works on all versions, including GameCube ones). Ganon's blood at the end of the game appears red in versions 1.0 and 1.1, but was changed to green in version 1.2. Also for version 1.2, the original theme for the Fire Temple, similar to an Islamic prayer chant, was replaced in version 1.2 with a new theme. The GameCube version is similar to 1.2 but has some differences including button icons changed to their GameCube colors.
EDIT
Never Mind I have 1.2, it has a B stamped on the back. BAH! :evil:

For NTSC (North American) N64 cartridges, the easiest way of determining your version is to check the small punch-code at the top-right side of the back label.

xx = v1.0
xxA = v1.1
xxB = v1.2
