I was at a local electronics company called The Federated Group. I tested the NES with Super Mario Bros and Rad Mobile, I had already played both at friend's houses. I also played Wonderboy, Quartet, After Burner and Missile Defense 3D on the Master System. I had saved up enough money mowing lawns to walk home with one system that day, the Master System won.

My parent's first VCR came from a Federated. Blank tapes were still $8-10 each and my parents weren't going to buy one there, but the salesman haggled and sold us one for $1.

I remember playing playing SMB, and Ice Climber in one of those 10/12 slot NES kiosks. It was at a Pharm House retail store in NY. Anyone remember Pharm House? It was sort of like a Hills or Ames.

Coleco Vision. I can't recall if I actually got to play the system, but I clearly remember it being physically set up for display at the department store.

The NES for me. It was in Toys R Us & Sears when I was growing up.

I can distinctly remember playing Crazy Taxi and some basketball game on a Dreamcast just after I'd moved, so that must have been in 2000. I also remember Star Wars Episode 1: Racer on an N64.
I didn't really hang out in stores before that.

They're still that way at mine. And it's not because they're old, because the closest one was recently expanded and remodeled, and the next-closest one is only a few years old.
