Nah, just pluck the tabs out with wire cutters or something, they're located on the backside of the cart input area. Open the dust flaps and you'll see them. You can just google it if you have trouble and you'll get simple instructions.
Oh, so it's like the N64? Just a cosmetic difference? Convenient.

I'll have to buy one of those fancy screwdrivers to open it up though...

You can rip the plastic tabs out without opening up the console. If you open the dust flaps and look inside you'll be able to see them pretty easily. It's this easy:

I have a Nakitek game saver I use for SFC games. It's okay, but pretty fussy. It doesn't grip the games tightly and if you're a millimeter off the bastard doesn't work. I'd recommend an actual Super Famicom or maybe that excellent clone system that's going to come out soon (Supaboy).

You can also cut the tabs on your NTSC SNES, but I don't like to mutilate consoles.

That's simple. I bet I could reach in there with an exacto knife.

Normally I don't like mutilated consoles either, but when the operation is that simple, easy, and makes so little cosmetic difference, I don't really care.

dont know if it could work as well, but if you have a game geine you can also remove the tabs for it as well and use it as a pass thru for your snes.

I havent seen them in a loooong time, but there are adapters for SNES that will allow you to place Super Famicom game it. Kinda like the Honeybee adapter for nes.

Its about half the size of a normal cart and it extends it for any foregin game.

Last time I saw one was back in 1998!

I'm surprised no one brought up the PlayStation version, which has the CD music and animated cutscenes like the Saturn version but it doesn't have the screen borders?

Good point. If I ever get another SNES, I will probably cut the tabs off the old crappy yellow one I currently have.

Well it's just personal preference, you can make some comparisons by just hitting up the music on youtube. "awful" is an exaggeration on my part with my earlier post... but it just sounds pretty amateurish in comparison to the X4-X6 music in my opinion and I don't think it fits the look of the SNES style. That's me though, judge for yourself I guess...

1. PSX/Saturn/PC
2. SNES

(think the SNES destroys this one)

(ditto lol)

(this one isn't too bad)

etc. I think the SNES version definitely delivers a darker more intense sound.

Go with SFC. Cheapest, best performance. Any load time or frame rate differences of CD versions aren't worth it. Good MMX play demands no slowdown, ever.

Lol, you did exactly what I was about to do by posting those links. Great minds think alike. I was very angry at how they changed the music for the cd versions of MM X 3. They did a better job with the remixes on Maverick Hunter X though, even though I wouldn't necessarily say they're better than the originals, they are still pretty good. Check out how some of these compare to the originals:

Central Highway(I like the remix one on this better I think)

Storm Eagle

Boss theme(Better than the original)

Vile

Zero

Dr Light(Great remix on this one)

Palace Grounds

Flame Mammoth
