DKC2... Diddy and Dixie were more enjoyable to control and the challenge was ramped up! I thought DKC3 was a big disappointment. The end boss for one thing lacked the same excitement you got from the previous games.

I think it had quite a lot of good things going for it, but the overall design does not pit well against its pals.AppleQueso wrote:haha nobody likes DKC3
I know I sure as hell didn't.
DKC 2 would be my absolute favorite. That did everything right. Level design was brilliant, full incorporation of the animal buddies, and had a fantastic replay value. Its GB mimmick, Donkey Kong Land 2, also shares some very similar elements, but is not quite as good as DKC 2. Still a fantastic game.
I found DKC 3 to be quite enjoyable. It's only behind DKC 2 by a slim margin in my book.
DKC Returns is a friggin pipe dream. The level design literally made my jaw drop. But for some reason, I cannot get over the fact that you ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO shake the wii remote to roll. This is a basic control element that should have been on a button. That stupid fucking gimmick ruined the whole game for me.

I LOVE the DKC games!
The level design, the incredible graphics, the amount of secrets to find, the phenomenal soundtracks...
In my opinion it goes: DKC2 > DKC3 > DKC
2 has the most incredible atmosphere and soundtrack, while the third is really good too. I particularly liked the 'colder' more northern environments.
The original onyl falls slightly short because of it's relative lack of replay value (as randomly hidden bonus rooms aren't as good as Bonus Barrels hiding Kremkoins, and DK Coins) - basically, the sequels had better secrets and more stuff to do after the main quest.
Didn't expect too much from Returns but it blew me away - it was all I played last Christmas. I even got used to having to waggle to roll and it ended up not bothering me.
I wish Retro would make a pirate-themed DKC 2 Returns!
Also, this thread has made me realise that I have never played DKL 2 and 3. I just ordered them - thanks for reminding me I needed to experience them too!

And you know, its not just us gamers in 2011 looking back that think DKC2 is the best. I recently unearthed my childhood gaming mags, and all of them, even EGM, gave DKC2 a perfect score across the board. DKC1 didn't score as highly, and 3 didn't either.

I have to say DKC 1 is my favorite. The music was the best part of the game. DKCR is in a close second.

I agree with others that DKC3 is still fantastic. I personally hate the first two worlds but then after that it gets really good and has some amazing atmosphere/graphics just like the previous two games.
But yeah the first game is my favorite by far. You've got the best combo of characters, the classic DK himself and Diddy. The environments/music were the best to me as well and I kind of liked the simplicity of the game, whereas the later ones had all the collectibles and stuff. Still fun but I find DKC the most exciting to go back too.
I love how dark DKC2 is. Seriously, the whole game is pretty bleak, environment/design wise, and the difficulty skyrockets from the first game. Love how connected they feel too, so you could almost argue they're one huge game.
But DKC3 had all the enemy redesigns, the bears, Dixie and Kiddy Kong as a weird duo, and yeah. It just felt a bit detached from the first two games.

I'd rate em like this:
DKC > DKR > DKC3 > DKC2 > DKL2 > DKL
Here's another good song from Donkey Kong 3.
I dunno I really liked 3 now that I think about...fuck you guys for hatin.

I don't think anyone's hating - it's important to make that clear!Soldier Blue wrote: I dunno I really liked 3 now that I think about...fuck you guys for hatin.
personally, it actually used to be my favourite when I was younger (mainly because I didn't own 2 yet, just played it at a friend's house). It's now my second favourite as I still prefer it to DKC.
I can understand hating world 1 since it's a bit basic, but Kremwood Forest had some amazing atmosphere! The music was so dark and haunting.Xeogred wrote:I agree with others that DKC3 is still fantastic. That and the race level had a cool theme. But yeah I don't know what it is about those worlds, haha... I just think the ones that follow are just much much better I guess.
