Final Fantasy I on PSP vs the GBA and PS1 re-releases
Re: Final Fantasy I on PSP vs the GBA and PS1 re-releases
Wasn't FF3 on the Wonder Swan Color? Granted, only in Japanese, but it was remade. The map combo gets found out in Matoya's Cave in FF1 and I think it's written on the ring in FF2.

I agree. I don't like the concept of transforming these games into 3D to begin with. But on top of that, they're cruddy-looking.noiseredux wrote:I find those DS remakes really ugly.
I don't think so. According to Wikipedia, it was cancelled.Wasn't FF3 on the Wonder Swan Color? Granted, only in Japanese, but it was remade. The map combo gets found out in Matoya's Cave in FF1 and I think it's written on the ring in FF2.
Re: Final Fantasy I on PSP vs the GBA and PS1 re-releases
The first two games on the GBA are basically broken. You could probably skate through the first game without trying and be done in two hours. It's sad. They greatly lowered the difficulty, and to make things worse, they changed the spell system to use magic points, which makes magic vastly overpowered. You can essentially cast spells forever. In short, it is nothing like the original.
Final Fantasy Origins is the definitive version. It stays true to the original and boosts the difficulty from the USA NES version. It has cleaned up text, great music, and innumerable bug fixes.

I think it NOT being on WSC is why it was the only one not ported to PS1 later.MrPopo wrote:Wasn't FF3 on the Wonder Swan Color? Granted, only in Japanese, but it was remade. The map combo gets found out in Matoya's Cave in FF1 and I think it's written on the ring in FF2.

I was under the impression thats why there was no GBA port too.noiseredux wrote:I think it NOT being on WSC is why it was the only one not ported to PS1 later.MrPopo wrote:Wasn't FF3 on the Wonder Swan Color? Ditto. I'm not touching them. If they were standalone games I'd be interested, but it just completely ruins the aesthetics to me and they look awful compared to the originals. Not to mention I think IV has voice acting, as if JRPG voice acting usually isn't awful enough, hearing new voices for an old game is a nightmare to me... lol.noiseredux wrote:emu. Sadly. I really would love if they did something like FFIV remake on PSP. I find those DS remakes really ugly.
I myself played a fan translation of FFIII this year too and loved it, really impressive for an NES game. With a little polish and graphics in the style of the classic PSP ports, it'd be amazing. I have no idea why SE hasn't done much with it.

I enjoyed the FFIV on DS actually... I guess I am in the minority.Xeogred wrote:Ditto. I'm not touching them. The DS version of FFIII was tight. The DS version of FFIV was okay, it didn't really need to exist so with many other ports floating around.
4 Heroes of Light is the best Final Fantasy game released during the last decade.

I wouldn't doubt it, that one does look interesting.BoneSnapDeez wrote:The DS version of FFIII was tight. The DS version of FFIV was okay, it didn't really need to exist so with many other ports floating around.

And yeah FFIII DS looks alright to me in comparison to IV ...
