Thank you very much for this review. A lot of background info and regional differences.
Also good that you mention the gameplay system and powerups.
I remember playing through it. It was fun. I don´t remember which version I had though. US version probably....
I am a big 2D Shinobi fan. And this was the last real 2D Shinobi game. Perhaps there were a few Gameboy Advance shinobi´s after this, but they don´t count.

you inspired me to finally check out this game. I loaded it up and started watching the intro FMV. The first thing I immediately noticed was all the sword and attack sound effects are the same as the ones in Dragon Force! I've played DF so much I immediately recognized them lol

It's on my radar now thanks to that review. Might check it out sometime. I've played all the Shinobi games on the Genesis already and the PS 2 game as well. I like me some ninjas
