:D Just bought the penultimate game to complete my PAL Dreamcast collection.

Now I only need to find a cheap copy of the first Marvel vs Capcom...

The Ys discussion was proceeding past ridiculous to plaid. I was trying to break the camel's back and put it out of its misery. But hey, a few more people will remember how to pronounce it now. It's so eas-y.

:) : I found a utility that somebody made that allows you to explore all interior and exterior cells in the Silent Hill pc games. Not useful for anything but it's pretty neat to zoom around the town and see what all was created.

Using this utility, I found out that rooms with a mirror that "reflects" the characters is a lie. There are actually two rooms created. One room being a mirror image of the other. The only thing separating the rooms is a clear texture with a reflective surface.

...I can't believe I'm writing this. Dang I'm nerdy.

Oh well.

A lot of games used this technique. Making actual reflective surfaces can be tricky.

What ticked me off today? I'll tell you what ticked me off today! Late last night I upload the latest episode of Game Sack thinking all was fine. But unbeknownst to me there is a high-pitched whine during the short Wolfenstein 3D segment. The 32X makes this noise in many games, that's just the way it is. However I edit the show using expensive Sony headphones which apparently suck at high frequencies. I didn't hear the noise so I didn't even think about it. A few other people have heard the noise so far while watching the video (surprised Youtube was able to preserve it).

Anyway I had to fix the issue, recompress and I am now reuploading the 1.24 GB file to Youtube to fix this issue. I'll end up losing about 300+ views and 3-4 pages of comments as a result since I can't just replace the video on the existing page (current version will stay up until the replacement is ready to go).

Damn you, 32X! You shall not fool me again!

Damn, I'm having flashbacks of a very similar thing that happened to me with a school project years ago.

At the time my PC had a janky ass Soundblaster knockoff and tin can speakers. I spent a week of evenings ripping and editing from sound library CDs and making funny noises over and over again, driving my roommate nuts. This was great as I didn't have to fight for lab time. Got all my snippets done and saved onto my zip disk and headed into the lab to drop them into the project only to discover a high-pitched whine in every single of the 50-60 sound files. Obviously the professional sound library CDs were fine, so it was introduced by the crappy sound card and the crappy tin can speakers weren't reproducing the sound.

I had to scramble and redo all of them in the lab that weekend. I had been ahead for once and was just supposed to be putting the sounds in Friday night and rendering the output so I would have the weekend free.

I haven't used mine in years. I have the slow parallel port version but I never had a problem with it and used my disks with my PC and the Macs at school. There were always lab machines with the click of death but I think it was usually people not keeping disks clean in the cases or abusing the machines.

:) : Only one more day of education before Thanksgiving begins.

Unsure: What to spend my money on on Black Friday. I've been saving my money/selling off stuff I don't need to keep ever since this summer (or maybe it's been since spring) and I now have $220 to spend. I'm thinking of getting the following Friday: An Xbox 360 4GB console from Target ($140), a 32" HDTV from Walmart ($188), or a 42" HDTV from BestBuy ($200). Tough decisions... although there's always the chance I won't get any of those. I've often not been fast enough to get the good deals, and just get to fish through the leftovers.
