So I picked up Final Fantasy I and II for the PSP for $10 each new at Toys R Us over the weekend. I was playing through FFI on the PS1 "Final Fantasy Origins," but I lost interest in it after a while. The difficulty didn't bother me, but a lack of a map really frustrated me, plus I didn't like how the only way to recover MP was to sleep at the inns.
For those in the know, does the one for the PSP improve on these issues? Apparently it has new dungeons, which is nice, but a map would be very beneficial. The high encounter rate on the ocean really got on my nerves when I was trying to figure out where the elf village was, so that I could stock up on Softs.
Final Fantasy I on PSP vs the GBA and PS1 re-releases
Re: Final Fantasy I on PSP vs the GBA and PS1 re-releases
I tried playing through it on PSP but got bored after about eight hours. I figured there are more than enough great RPGs out there (especially on PSP) and that I shouldn't feel bad about abodoning one that doesn't hold my interest.

There is a map in FF1 on Origins. Hit CIRCLE + START. I'm guessing it's the same button combo on PSP.

I was racking my brain trying to remember how I found the map back in the day. I knew it was there.noiseredux wrote:There is a map in FF1 on Origins. Hit CIRCLE + START. I'm guessing it's the same button combo on PSP.

FFII's map button combo was something weird like that as well.dunpeal2064 wrote:I was racking my brain trying to remember how I found the map back in the day. I knew it was there.noiseredux wrote:There is a map in FF1 on Origins. Hit CIRCLE + START. I'm guessing it's the same button combo on PSP.
I never really got into FFII on Origins or the GBA, but I beat the PSP version earlier this year. Seemed a bit more balanced and polished, the graphical style was really nice too so I might pickup FFI sometime. It'd be cool to see FFIII revamped like those two and FFIV Complete, but it'll probably never happen...

it is really weird that III is so often skipped for re-releases. It's amazing that it was never on PS1 considering all the others in the series through 9 were.
Re: Final Fantasy I on PSP vs the GBA and PS1 re-releases
Yeah, the only way to play FFIII in English is that stupid 3D-ish version on the DS. No thanks. It would've been great if it was released on the PSP...
Thanks for the button combo for the map. I'm too lazy to go look in the instruction manual to see if it's even mentioned there. I just remember that I couldn't find a map being mentioned in the manual when I last looked.

well not really. The only way I played it was the NES fan translation.greg wrote:Yeah, the only way to play FFIII in English is that stupid 3D-ish version on the DS.

Repro cart? Or some other way other than emulation?noiseredux wrote:well not really. The only way I played it was the NES fan translation.greg wrote:Yeah, the only way to play FFIII in English is that stupid 3D-ish version on the DS.

emu. Sadly. I really would love if they did something like FFIV remake on PSP. I find those DS remakes really ugly.o.pwuaioc wrote:Repro cart?
