Best Donkey Kong Country title?
Re: Best Donkey Kong Country title?
DKC2 is the one I've enjoyed most. The core gameplay evolved to what it would be for the rest of the series, and I enjoyed the game's atmosphere more than the others. It also has the best sound track out of every Donkey Kong game in my opinion.

Donkey Kong Country 2 for the reasons above... basically it is the Super Mario Bros. 3 of Donkey Kong Country. The music, variety of locations, graphics, gameplay mechanics/ideas, amount of content, etc. it's all there in a perfect bundle.
Donkey Kong Country Returns is nowhere near as good as the SNES trilogy. I think the gameplay changed too much and where it did change, it changed for the worst. (ex. the roll assigned to motion controls, Diddy is now a jetpack thing, only one animal buddy, bland original music, etc.). I am grateful they made the game and put effort into it to make it as great as it is, but to me it is definitely the weakest game of the series.

DKC2 is excellent, and definitely improved in many ways over the first.
However, it was missing Donkey Kong, and I played the first one first, so it wins in the nostalgia dept.
I found DKL2 to be decent, and could not get into DKC3 at all.

Vectorman!
Nah, just kidding. Donkey Kong Country 1 gets the nostalgia vote from me.

I have DKC 2 for SNES and DKCR. I don't think it's just better graphics, but I've had more fun with DKCR. It might be the control feel more than anything. You can actually do most of the game, sans collectables, without the shake to blow, incidentally. DKCRs second player mode isn't nearly as compelling as Galaxy 2 or epic yarn.

It's probably not that NO one likes it, it's just that it's no one's favorite.AppleQueso wrote:haha nobody likes DKC3
I know I sure as hell didn't.
I voted for DKC2. I'm not gonna repeat things that have already been said about it, but no one mentioned another thing that the sequel improved upon. SECRETS! Bonus stages became more fun, and in some cases, wackier to find. There's the bonus "B" barrel, then the cannon ball and tank which is pretty neat. On top of that, there's the entire Lost World that you have to unlock and beat to get the second ending. And it's worth it because that end scene is one of the more beautiful things I've seen in a SNES game.
One thing I will repeat though is the music. I love you, Dave Wise! Who else has the sound track and listens to it while they work?
I'd have to say that DKC2 is my favorite, but only by a small margin. The first and third are tied for second place. I love the first one because... well, it's the FIRST ONE! But I really enjoy the third as well. I can see why people might not like it. You don't play as Donkey OR Diddy, Zingers are now mechanical. Rambi is now a stupid elephant. Et cetera. But the core gamplay is the same, and that's what really counts. The level designs are fun. The graphics are as nice as the last two games. The music is still awesome (still Dave Wise). It kept a lot of things from the second title, and added a few things as well. There's the lost world that you have to unlock and beat for the second ending, but there's also a third ending. All those caves that you have to find to get those little birds, plus the massive trading thing that goes on between all the bears. Anyway, all I'm saying is, it's still a fun game. I love all three so much, I just like the second a tad more.
DKC Returns was awesome fun, and I'm glad it came out. Definitely not my favorite though. I did enjoy the game a lot, but it's impossible to compare it to the original. I think I have already expressed my thoughts about the game here: http://www.racketboy.com/forum/viewtopi ... sd=a&hilit
As for the Donkey Kong Land games, they just don't compare at all. I can appreciate how awesome they are for Gameboy games, but they suck compared to the console games.

This. Donkey Kong Country 2 is easily in my top 5 SNES games list. It has for me, the best soundtrack on the SNES. Final Fantasy VI, Yoshi's Island, Chrono Trigger, nothing else even comes close.dogman91 wrote:Donkey Kong Country 2 for the reasons above... basically it is the Super Mario Bros. 3 of Donkey Kong Country. I rather like the original, the third is so-so and Returns is beautiful but not nearly as fun as the original SNES games. Plus it frustrates me that I can't use the classic controller with it. Motion controls DO NOT BELONG in platformers.

Re: Best Donkey Kong Country title?
My favorite is definitely DKC (1) and worst is Donkey Kong Country Return due to the crappy motion control roll and that Diddy isn’t playable.
Did they even test the game to see if the roll was better with button pressed or a motion flick? Honestly whoever tested it definitely did not understand the precision and necessity of that move.

The forced motion controls frustrated me, too (read my thoughts in the link I posted about accidentally rolling to my death). However, by the end of the game, I no longer had any problems with it. Now I kinda like it. And I really like the motion controls in New SMB Wii (flicking the remote to spin in the air). That's the extent of my love for motion controls though. I've ranted a lot on the forums about how I pretty much hate them.Satoshi_Matrix wrote:Plus it frustrates me that I can't use the classic controller with it.
