Keio Flying Squadron was on Ebay for $299.99 yesterday! Never heard of it before this thread. No matter what it can't be that good!

It is definitely not worth that much for me! It is "easier" but it's not very original and cute-em-ups just don't appeal to me. Parodius is much better if you like the style.

Life meter sounds promising!
Then definately check out Steel Empire! It's also got this old film style presentation and a cool WW 2 esque plot. Best part is you can usually find it for a couple bucks. I really enjoyed it, and I think you'd get the hang of it after a little bit.

I know it's insane for a Sega CD game to fetch that much. It's kinda fun but I would never pay that much for it!

I thought it had some promise because of the life meter and health refills. It can get tricky after the first few levels and like i said the enemy bullet patterns are sometimes cheap and difficult to avoid....plus it's usualy pretty cheap. I got mine complete for 7 bucks.

i don't know...it really doesn't seem like there are any "easy" horizontal 16 bit shmups. mostly moderate to difficult. For me I just kept trying over and over again until I got the hang of it. I think thats really the only way to learn. The ones I named seemed the easiest to get the hang of and most of them had a good learning curve.

I do think there are more verts that are easier than there are horzies, but check my lists. Most of the horzies I list are easier than most and therefore are good practice.

You must be shitting me. That's pretty damn crazy. I was checking it out a month ago on Ebay and it went for 200 dollars. At this rate, I might never get a chance to own or play the game.

The game is pricey not because it is good, but because it is rare and is in high demand. Supply and demand. Simple economic my friend.

I've not been reading the rest of this thread, but downloaded 'Star Soldier R' for the Wii last night. It's a short game with a 2 minute mode and a 5 minute mode which are esstentially a 1 level or 2 level score attack mode, with an online wifi ranking system. It's quite easy in that the stages are easy to clear, but get's a little harder to try and get on the online leaderboard.

Ok most of the dreamcast ones listed are tough as nails. Especially mars matrix.

An easy one with an easy entry point.. Gunbird 2. Its silly, cute, but its a shmup straight up infinite continues, and has a nice easy mode.

I adore triggerheart, and it is easier than let say, ikaruga, or mars matrix, but not as easy as gunbird 2.

Gunbird 2 is easy to learn hard to master ^.-

unfortunately the easier ones are usually a bit kiddy and not very fun. Keio is probably my favourite "easier" shmup

The Cotton games are pretty good too for a cute 'em up - plus, the Sengoku games (Sengoku Ace for Arcade/PS2 collection, Sengoku Blade for Arcade/Saturn/PS2 collection and Sengoku Cannon for the PSP) are quite easy and not at all cute.
