Best Donkey Kong Country title?

I've been playing a lot of that series this year, having beaten the first two on GBA, beaten Donkey Kong Land 2, and playing a little bit or Returns.

I wanna figure this out. According to you guys, (GB "Land" series included) which is the very best and for what reason? Disregarding ports, and not voting on one for the sole reason of being able to play as Donkey Kong.

DKC2 did everything that every good sequel should do. It improves and builds on the gameplay of DKC1 while offering even better graphics, music, and some seriously cool atmosphere.

I've only extensively played DKC 1 & 2. Both classics, but it grew stale, so I've hardly put any time into any others. I'd go with DKC 1 mostly because it defined all the others.

I haven't played 3 or the Land titles, but I have played 1, 2 and Returns.

Out of all them, Returns has to be the best for me.

DKCR would be my pick. I think it caters to many tastes while still managing to remain true to the original's spirit. Wealth of replay value too.

The first one all the way, but I haven't ever played DK Returns, or DKLand 2 and 3.

I definitely prefer DKC to DKC2, the first one is just more enjoyable for me. I also really like DKL, I'd like to see it come up on 3DS VC.
