Otomedius hits US Shores!
Re: Otomedius hits US Shores!
The guys on the shmup forum dont seem to like it much. Haven't played it myself quite yet! I need to import the Japanese version because Ive got a j360. Was hoping the US release would be region free.
Re: Otomedius hits US Shores!
I pre-ordered the fancy-pants edition and find it satisfying, but I don't think it's anything too amazing. Still, I like supporting US-releases for shmups.
It really does play a lot like Gradius, so there's not a lot of bullet-hell action going on. I found it to be pretty difficult, but the fact that you don't get sent back to a checkpoint when you die makes it easy to at least get through, if score doesn't matter.
I like cute/moe anime stuff, so I think the aesthetics are amusing and enjoyable. The only problem is that I find the busy backgrounds a little confusing in differentiating what's an enemy and what's in the background.
The pillowcase is high quality, if you're the kind of person who wants sketchy anime pillows, and the artbook/soundtrack are also nice.

Gameplay looks super stale and the visuals are very poor. I won't be going anywhere near this one.

I finally had some time to sit down with this guy. Just like the gradius series, it gets super frutstrating after you lose your power-ups. Story is kinda lame as well (yes I realize the whole game revolves around half-naked anime girls on personal spacecraft). Achievements are tougher this time around too.brunoafh wrote:Gameplay looks super stale and the visuals are very poor. I won't be going anywhere near this one.
On the positive side, it looks better than O.Gorgeous, the simultaneous play is nice, and it was a hell of a lot cheaper (as opposed to importing the original). I appreciated the mini-homages to konami classics like contra, parodius, and castlevania.
But if you don't already have Raiden 4, Raiden Fighters Aces, and deathsmiles, I'd hit those first. Last time I checked, all 3 of those were dirt cheap stateside.

Worth it just for dat fuckpillow.
Honestly though, I have no interest in this game. It looks terrible. I will give almost any shmup a fighting chance to win me over, but this game just looks like shit.

I picked up the Limited Edition, I probly didnt give it enough of a chance but i didnt think it was all that. I find the enemy bullets blend with the background which is super annoying. Every other US release shmup on the 360 is better than this imo
Re: Otomedius hits US Shores!
Any guesses when will this be $15 or less? Will it be worth it at that price?
Re: Otomedius hits US Shores!
Well it's getting horrible reception everywhere, and you can already get it on Amazon for $30 with free shipping, so probably not very long. Worth it? Well personally I wouldn't even have any interest in playing this for free after watching a few more gameplay vids.

No one can answer that for you, it's a matter of taste. I feel that $30 is a fair price. Just my opinion. We all went in to this knowing it wouldn't be dodonpachi. If you're intrigued by the quirkiness of it all, and you're into the gradius style of shmup, pick it up. But like I said before, there are a handful of US titles that you should look into first.dsheinem wrote:Any guesses when will this be $15 or less? Will it be worth it at that price?
Hell, if it didn't come stateside, you know that many of us would have paid $80 to import it. I'm not saying that would be wise, just letting you know
