It lets you use homebrew and play backups without any swap tricks.
A Brief History
The FreeVast project derives from a prior, highly-rumored project by the name of Vast, in which a small group of enthusiasts successfully exploited the Playstation 2 "out-of-the-box" via a specially designed memory card with a mini-usb interface for PC file access. This was no ordinary memory card, however... Videos across the internet proved it's ability to direct-boot virtually any backup game or ELF file, allowing homebrew software to run on an unmodded system, without voiding any warranties. Mysteriously, the project soon vanished into thin air, and the product was never publicly released. Many people believe the entire project was a cleverly executed hoax, whereas others leaned their opinions toward legal disposition.
In August of 2007, a nameless distributor raised up promoting a new product designed for easy game save transfer to and from any PC and PS2. The product was named Memor32 and closely resembled several characteristics of the Vast memory card modchip. Not much information was given about this product, besides it's whopping price of $80 USD! Approximately one week later, a 3rd party firmware was released for the Memor32 by "an elite team of Russian hackers" who deemed the alias Memento Team. This firmware provided all of the necessary functions to turn the Memor32 device into an external plug & play modchip... Coincidence?
Our goal here is to provide the same service of which the Memor32 memory card and Memento firmware provides, without the busty price tag. All efforts made here are strictly recreational, and are by no means endorsed by nor linked with Sony, Memor32, or Memento Team. We do not support piracy, we support a community dream, in which we are able to eternally forget about disk read errors and continue our programming hobbies!

yes, please get the goodies for me. i need this for me and my bro and my gf, i really don't want to teach them how to slide card a ps2.Mozgus wrote:Holy crap, so it doesn't require any custom hardware or third party memory cards? Shame I have no use for this now, but maybe my friends do. All it requires is someone like myself with the ability to initially flash place some contents on a memory card?

My biggest question is will the memory card still function normally for games afterward or does it need to be permanently sacrificed to the mod gods while you use this trick? I dont have a 3rd ps2 mem card right now.
Oh another thing. How do you actually go about loading a backup game (cd or dvd, not hdd)? I supposed you'd go though uLaunchElf to boot the Swap Magic 3.6 or 3.8 ELF? If so, can I get the ELF files for those off my Swap Magic discs or do I need to find them online?

Ok it doesn't work for me. It just sticks at a black screen when I boot. I can hear my tv changing resolutions about once per second. (yes my tv makes a very very soft noise when a console is changing resolutions.) Now I have to fix my card somehow.

I don't think is capable of actually loading backups. It doesn't yet have CD / DVD support, unless I'm mistaken. As it is now, doesn't this just support loading .elf files? It seems the only difference from the exploit I now use is that I wouldn't need a PS1 disc to initiate the hard drive.
Seems to be more useful for PS2 slim owners.
