Information from that topic is over a year old at best. The Wii has moved up leaps and bounds since then. Case in point, Goldeneye X (the Goldeneye Perfect Dark Mod), running in Wii64 10 months ago:

It runs better now, but I cant find a more up to date movie.

Re: Wii vs original Xbox for emulation?
Personally, I haven't tried any emulators on the Wii other than the virtual console offering of which the ones that I've tried are rock solid. The Wii classic controller seems better suited for playing the games as well.

Re: Wii vs original Xbox for emulation?
Another thing that the Wii emulators can do that will never be possible on Xbox is output at 240p. Virtual Console games will do this for the most part, and most homebrew emulators have a "native" resolution option (or something similar) that will output games at their original resolution without scaling. This look awesome on a CRT (and far more true to the originals), whereas with the Xbox you're forced to use 480i at least due to the graphics hardware.
But if you're playing on an HDTV, that probably won't be a big deal to you.
In that case you'd need to base your decision on other factors, of course.

I think most of my points are still relevant.

True there is still no Sega CD support, but there is decent playstation and N64 support. And Mame has been worked on alot:

So has NeoGeo:

I do not know about TurboCD support. Also most emulators will now load from USB aswell as SD - they dont all have arcade stick support though. So steps have been made in the right direction. Both have interesting Yabause ports.
The Xbox has one major advantage over the Wii in that you can install more ram to the motherboard. It is not particularly easy, but it is an option. As far as I know you cannot add ram to the Wii. I have also been told you can swap out the processor, but it is risky and makes some retail games unstable.

Re: Wii vs original Xbox for emulation?
I think if you're at the point where you want to upgrade the Xbox, you might as well go whole hog and make a "consolized" PC gaming rig (although I guess that describes Xbox anyways). That way you can get something with relatively nice specs and enjoy all kinds of emulation in addition to plenty of retail PC games that play nice with controllers (Super Street Fighter 4: AE, Sonic Generations, etc.) as well as many more fangames/homebrew titles.
You could start with a dead console that has a nice shell and build it into that. I'm sure a lot of you have seen things like NES and Gamecube systems with PC guts shoved in there. The "Home Theater PC" cases that Newegg sells would be great for an emulation console:

Tack on an interface like HyperSpin and you'd have a nifty rig!

Re: Wii vs original Xbox for emulation?
The dealbreaker for me when it comes to Xbox vs. Wii is that the Wii controller options are much better in my opinion. The sideways wiimote feels very close to the original NES, and the classic controllers (the pro in particular) are great for SNES and Sega. I guess if you're into a lot more obscure systems (Sega CD, PCengine, etc) maybe xbox would be better, but the ease of emulating on Wii and the controllers make it the winner in my book.

Re: Wii vs original Xbox for emulation?
I modded my xb and I haven't looked back since. The controls are hit or miss though depending on what you're playing. Gameplay can be glitchy too as some roms do not emulate well on it, especially N64. Obvioulsy it's not perfect but for the most part it's great and I just prefer it over the Wii.
I am addicted to video games, especially retro gaming from my era. I have: NES, SNES, Nintendo 64, Gamecube, Gameboy, GBA, Wii, Sega Genesis, Sega CD, Dreamcast, PS1, PS2, Xbox, and Xbox 360. I have probably over 1,000 games in total for all these systems combined. Yes, I need help and I wouldn't have it any other way! This is my passion and hey my wife still loves me!!
