In the last couple of years, the city where I live Mexicali Mexico has got a surge of new casinos. The laws here have become quite lax and now there at least 15 of them now with another 3 being built.

I went to one today and with a $20 bill I was given 340 pesos. So I went to use some slot machines. I went to the 5 cent MX slot machines (1/2 penny! US) Played the lines at about 6 pesos a bet. I won a little, then some more, and then I lost some more. In about five hours I made it up to 750 pesos only to lose it again an hour later. Dammit I should have cashed out! But Greed got the best of me. I kept thinking I could win a little more. But the slots sucked me dry. I'm a little dissapointed. But I only lost 20 bucks. Others in more expensive casinos have lots thousands!

As a gamer, how do you see casinos? Do you analyze the slots before you choose one? Does your expertise in gaming help you in the slots or other gambling activities? Where you schooled when you think it was just like in the movies/videogames?

There are elements of gaming in slot machines if you think about it. Risk and reward, visual graphics and the thrill of winning all add up to some one of a kind experiences.

So go ahead and post here some of your stories. Your triumphs and your tragedies. The ups and downs of your gambling experiences. And maybe some tips .

I have some friends who are into the whole analyzing the odds of slot machines and table games. They than take what they learned and try to apply applicable strategies. But it pays off to a degree, they win a lot more often that I do.

I have only had two real casino triumphs. One time I only had 10$, and I continuously bet the "don't pass line" on a craps table. The table hit a cold streak, so I kept winning as everyone else kept losing. I got about 140$ after the night was done.

The other good day I had was at the pai gow poker table. I won about $300.

Generally speaking, you will lose money with most casino games. Namely, the luck based ones, especially if they are run by a computer. There is no way to win overall with these types of games so the best way to play them is to not play them. Yeah, I know that's no fun, but that's the reality.

Now when it comes to games where skill actually makes some difference, such as Poker and Blackjack, if you are skilled enough, you can actually win overall. Personally, I'm not that good at these games, but if I was, I would consider playing them at a casino.

Izzy has a great point. These machines are not programmed to lose money. Not to say people don't win money occasionally, but these machines know the odds. Programming a computer to be 100% random just sounds fishy.

THIS. I think it also ties a Players Club card into the odds of an individual wins and losses. Comical when you see people try to lay out a pattern in the Video Keno machines.

If you go to play slots, play the machines in the highest traffic area. If they are in the front row near the entrance, there is a higher chance that they will pay off. But there is a reason they are called the one armed bandit. The reason for this is if people are walking by and see someone win, they will be more inclined to go play. This is also why those machines are usually full of people.

Ive not been to a casino in a long time, the last time I went I had more fun trying to figure out the odds on roulette in my head than actually playing games. I am not a math person, but stats and trig came naturally to me. I use to play alot of poker, but ever since 2004, most places have more Texas holdem than five card, so I stopped playing. I stopped playing Blackjack once casinos started shuffling together several decks and taking a section out. Counting cards is a skill and should be legal.

I say this like I go to casinos often, but Ive only been a handful of times, mostly for events nearby. I did however study gaming in school, but that is what happens when you go to college for Hospitality Management.

I believe card counting is technically legal. However, a casino has the right to refuse any individual the right to play for any reason they see fit. So card counters are normally at the top of there discourage list.

There are many precedents and cases directly stating that it's legal, so there's no technicality.

Comical when you see people try to lay out a pattern in the Video Keno machines.

They probably run on some algorithm instead of a really random methodology so you can do it.
