Anyone have a solderless one?
And if you have a solder-version, how would the install be for a soldering noob (like me)?

Man, you guys put me off the solderless one but better to know in advance.peace4myheart wrote:Yeah, I heard bad things about the solderless DMS4. I wouldn't know personally but I have the DMS4 Pro that someone installed for me and it works very well so far.
How long have you had your soldered one? Have you run into any game issues with and games, PS1 or PS2? Or any hardware problems at all?
Even with the DMS4 solderless, you really need to solder the ground wire or else you'll most likely have more issues. I remember an endless string of complaints on the forums when this was the hot chip on the market, and most of them were caused by people simply screwing the ground point on instead of soldering it. It's basically a metal loop that you place over a screwhole on the motherboard. It just doesnt work out as well as intended.D.D.D. wrote:Man, you guys put me off the solderless one but better to know in advance.peace4myheart wrote:Yeah, I heard bad things about the solderless DMS4. I can recommend that you dont do it yourself. If you've never soldered before, a PS2 mod chip is simply out of your league. You will probably break your machine.D.D.D. wrote:So I'm definitely going to get the solder-version as the solderless one just sounds unreliable and I don't want that.
Seeing that I've never soldered before, can you recommend a good beginners guide for soldering?

I had mine over a year now with a 500 gb harddrive. I installed most of my games on it. I have no problem with any back up games whatsoever, ps1 or ps2. Of course I am only speaking of the games I have. As for the HDD, 100% compatibility is not possible. It's around 90-95%. However, if you only look at the games that are worthwhile to play, then it is on the higher end. I think the usage of the HDD is the best part about DMS4. So convenient and loads games up so much faster.D.D.D. wrote: How long have you had your soldered one? Have you run into any game issues with and games, PS1 or PS2? Or any hardware problems at all?
Anyway, listen to Moz. Don't try to solder these chips yourself if you have no experience because it can be a handful. So many wires. My brother knows how to but even he messed up once in awhile. Fortunately, it was his PS2 that he broke and not mine.
