Great show, I have yet to get to S2, but I heard it's not as good.Xeogred wrote:Started up Kaiji. 8 episodes later... this is incredible.

I think I'll still really dig it, but yeah I think to sum up the issues I've heard:Lodestar wrote:Great show, I have yet to get to S2, but I heard it's not as good.Xeogred wrote:Started up Kaiji. 8 episodes later... this is incredible.
- It only has two arcs I think, instead of arguably ~4 or so in the first season.
- The "villain" characters aren't as interesting I guess.
But yeah, I still think it'll be good stuff.
I'm watching Birdy Decode myself now, haha. I loved the 90's OVA, the first episode of Decode put me off months ago but I think I watched it right after the old OVA, so the stylistic changes and all that maybe threw me off. Now Birdy Decode just rocks, and I hear season 2 is way better too so I'm stoked. I'd let Birdy beat me up.

If you get to it, shoot me a PM to tell me how it was. Got too much on my plate right now.

Re: What Anime are you Currently Watching?/Anime Recommendations
finally finished the 43 episodes of the original Mobile Suit Gundam TV series - I loved it
Watched Gunbuster (The Movie) last night - it was great art wise I thought but it felt a bit undetailed or something, though I definitely enjoyed it - it was probably just that some stuff was left out when compressing into a movie.
Am currently watching Space Runaway Ideon and Royal Space Force - both great stuff IMO

Royal Space Force is definitely a visual masterpiece.
Ideon is great stuff, be sure to follow up the series with the movie Be Invoked, the true finale to the series and one of my favorite anime movies. Incredible stuff.

yeah Royal Space Force blew me away, the art was so original so many details that made it a slightly different (and kinda 1930s ish) world - the shape of the divider lines on the roads, the coins, the vacuum tube counters in the rocket - just brilliant.Xeogred wrote:Royal Space Force is definitely a visual masterpiece.

Yeah I'm at ep. 8 of Ideon atm, I will definitely watch Contact and Be Invoked too, then I think Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam. Watching Zeta straight after the original is weird how it goes from 'warm' discoey soundtrack to ultra cold/sharp digital (and of course no bass at all) 80's intro - also Amuro rockin a poloneck and suit jacket combo!
I also intend to watch Patlabor TV Series soon.

Just picked up New Cutey Honey the anime essentials version.
I forgot how fun that little ova was. I will never understand why none of the of the other Cutey Honey anime came stateside. I mean we get Battle Vixens and Queen's Blade, but what about some old school fan service.
You know from a simpler, more innocent time, when acid breast milk was not yet weaponized.
Also watched more of Supernatural the anime. Still hate the english voice replacemnt for Dean and the anime version of Bobby.

Still only The iDOLM@STER. And I watched a little more Kiss x Sis today. And then deleted it all. I like watching shows that are so bad they're good sometimes, but Kiss x Sis is just bad, haha. Goes a little too far with the incest.

I thought the Supernatural anime got the original actors to do the dub?Mendoza wrote:Just picked up New Cutey Honey the anime essentials version.

Yo.
I only started watching anime at 26 (!!!) and so far I've really only explored the "popular" stuff: Cowboy Bebop, Evangelion, Magic Knight Rayearth, Chobits, Ranma ½. I think I'd like to purchase the Slayers and Elfen Lied collections sometime in the near future.
