PS2 Arcade Sticks - Need Advice
Hey Guys, I need a couple of suggestions about arcade sticks and what to buy. I'm looking to pick up two sticks to use with the Playstation 2 except I have a few problems. I cannot find any arcade stick retailers in Australia or online so I haven't even got out of the gate yet. So if anyone has any ideas that'd be great. I have looked at Play Asia but their range seems awfully limited, I'm not familiar with the distribution of sticks but it seems as though manufacturers only put out one stick at a time.
Secondly, I will be buying a Playstation 3 shortly and I'm not sure if I can get a PS3 stick which will work with the Playstation 2 games as well. Again I am unsure as to how this works.

Questions you need to ask yourself when buying a stick:
How much money are you willing to spend?
What kind of parts do you want...American bat-stick/concave buttons or Japanese ball-stick/convex buttons?
Do you want arcade-grade (meaning Sanwa JLF parts or something similar)?
Do you want table top (big) or lap top (smaller)?
Do you want a "clicky" stick or a loose stick?
Do you want a one-of-a-kind piece of art that also plays perfectly? (google Byrdo if you do)
I don't personally have experience with all the different PS2 sticks, but I'm sure other people here do. I do know Hori makes quality sticks if you want something that isn't too expensive but still plays well.
The Virtua Stick High Grade is very well-respected for the PS3, and as of February 2008 is apparently compatible with PS2 software. I haven't checked this out for myself because I haven't been able to find one for sale. If you find a couple, let me know!!
If you want to spend more, there are people who make sticks or modify existing sticks. The shoryuken.com forums has connections to people who do that.
There is also the Arcade-in-a-Box website. They have gotten great reviews and they look very solid. I am 80 percent sure I'm going to get one for myself. They just updated their site and they now make smaller PS2 and 360 sticks with lots of different options.
Manufactured sticks are usually limited in number, so perhaps older, popular ones are difficult to find new. Good luck!

May I recommend this. Heard good things about it, especially the price. I think Play-Asia ships international too.

No disrespect to you or the company who made this "thing," but it is crap. The ONLY thing good about it is the price, but you get what you pay for.peace4myheart wrote:May I recommend this. Heard good things about it, especially the price. I think Play-Asia ships international too.

Don't read this the wrong way, but I tried out this stick and gave it vigorous workout...it felt like it was going to break apart...and who wants to be gentle with their stick?
Play-asia definitely ships internationally, and EVERYBODY should support them! Unfortunately they are out of the PS2 Hori RAP sticks.

None taken man. I was only trying to help. Honestly, I don't own it and don't plan on buying it either cuz I already have the Namco Arcade Stick for PS1, you know the one with yellow buttons, and that works just fine for me. If you have owned this Namco Stick, then how does it compare to the crap that I mentioned from Play-Asia???doctorfugue wrote: No disrespect to you or the company who made this "thing," but it is crap. The Namco is definitely better than the Mayflash stick. It is hard to talk about these budget sticks because the better action and parts in expensive sticks is usually worth the money...games become much easier and more fun with a beautiful stick. There is nothing, NOTHING better than perfect digital control.peace4myheart wrote:None taken man. I was only trying to help. I can definitely recommend the HORI Real Arcade Pro if you can find one, it cost me a fair bit to get mine, but I dont regret it at all, I have a PS2 to GC controller adapter so I can use it for my Wii/Gamecube and also VC games (although this is somewhat negated by my recent acquisition of a Neo Geo Stick for Wii).
