I've been thinking

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

I've been thinking

Post by Pulling Teeth »

About starting a videogaming zine with my brother (Integrity, as he is known on these forums) focusing mostly on retro gaming but also have some new stuff thrown in here and there and maybe a comic strip. Would anyone here back this idea?

Sound cool. I haven't seen any cool retro game zines, just music and art mostly.
Everyone just has blogs now. :(

Where has your brother been anyway? Haven't seen him post for a while.

sounds interesting enough. in my life, i've only encountered one gaming zine and it was back in 1997. i don't know if i still have it somewhere, but it was mostly info/reviews on super famicom games from japan. all nicely done black and white photocopy, with a color laser-printed cover.

what are some of your ideas for content right now? any specific games/systems you're gonna write about? i planned to start a punk-related zine on and off about 4 years ago, but that never happened, mostly because i couldn't figure out how to fill a decent number of pages. the internet sure does make half-assedness a lot easier

Not to be a bubble burster as it sounds like something you really want to do, it just doesn't seem that feasible.

There's so much FREE content right now available on the web about retrogaming through sites like this and a slew of blogs I just can't see that many people getting behind the zine especially if you were to charge them for it. The Comic Fanzines back in the day were popular and had a fairly wide circulation for the niche market they were in but again that was before the internet.

I'd say if you're not doing this to make money and rather as an act of love, that you and your brother start a blog or perhaps an e-zine and again that's a hit or miss proposition with the countless other blogs dedicated to the games we love.

In any case I wish you the best of luck and I love to see people with passion doing what their heart tells them to.
