Re: Playstation 3DTV Display
My Playstation 3DTV Display finally arrived last night and I got a chance to try out several games such as Uncharted 3, Sonic Generations, and a 3D Blu-Ray Resident Evil: Afterlife and it's pretty good. I really like the design of the unit it's very sleek and stylish. I'm glad the 3D glasses are compatible with my Samsung 3D LED TV so I can have a second pair available to use. The picture quality and color is very good overall

Re: Playstation 3DTV Display
Sony and EB Games Canada were kind enought to give me one of these for free the day of release (the 13th of november) so Ive had some quality time with it now. I've set it up as my computer monitor with my ps3 attached as well.
Pros:
If anyone has any specific questions feel free to ask.
Pros:
- -Colours seem good
-display is really light (weight that is)
-display is really thin, somehow they managed to fit the entire power supply inside the thing, dont know the actually thickness but Id guess 1 to 1.5 inches
-3D ready
-Simulview ready (first on the market)
-includes motorstorm apacolypse, an hdmi, micro usb to usb, 1 pair of 3D glasses and a pouch to keep them in (and the power cord of course)
-speakers are suprisingly not too bad considering their size
-unit looks really elegant
-features a psp zoom mode so you can play psp games full screen
-2 HDMI ports, 1 component port, and one headphone jack
-screen is glossy, makes the image 'pop'
- -headphone jack is complete shit, I get electrical interference all the time
-no DVI port for computer use
-suffers from the common problem of PC's connected to TV's via HDMI appearing less crisp then they could be. (many TVs have work arounds for this, I cant seem to find one here though) Most noticable with red on black.
-screen is glossy so reflections can be an issue
-does not come with a remote
-menu / volume buttons are on the back of the display, below hdmi ports, can be hard to find when your not looking / in the dark
-menu options are bare bones
-Only comes with 1 set of glasses so you have to fork over 70 more bucks for simulview
If anyone has any specific questions feel free to ask.

@RyantheSlaya
Thanx, where can I shop for older models? Do u know if they will work here? we have 240V unlike America's 120V
About the Sony 3d TV, how is the double viewing thing work? does it work that well? or is it just novelty? I have a hard time believing u can actually seeing 2 pictures from the same display just as good as if it was displaying one picture

Is it true there is really no way to mount it? I wanted to purchase one to use a monitor for one of those racing seat set-ups but the Playstation blog said it could not be mounted.

Re: Playstation 3DTV Display
I tried a demo kiosk unit at a store today. I can say that the split-screen function works surprisingly well, but the 3D seemed like it hardly worked at all; I couldn't tell if it was actually 3D or not. :S
Re: Playstation 3DTV Display
I haven't actually tried it because I need to get another pair of glasses first, but my understanding is that it is an extention of the 3D technologly. For 3D to work they overlap two slighty different images and the glasses filter the images into individual eyes. One image for the left eye, one for the right, which gives the 3D effect. Simulview works the same way, it displays both images overlaped, the key difference being that instead of having the glasses filter both images, the glasses filter only 1 of the images into both eyes, so you don't see the other at all.kingmohd84 wrote:About the Sony 3d TV, how is the double viewing thing work? does it work that well? or is it just novelty? Unfortunately this is true.Purkeynator wrote:Is it true there is really no way to mount it? I wanted to purchase one to use a monitor for one of those racing seat set-ups but the Playstation blog said it could not be mounted.
Were you expecting 3D during simulview? Because 3D is turned off during that. It would kill the playability of the game if it was on. 3D renders two screens at once (same with simulview) which means that the games framerate gets cut in half. So a 60 frame per second is now 30. A lot of games at this stage also have a lower resolution with 3D on. Imagine how it would be if you had 3D and simulview on. The game would be rendering 4 screens but only able to display them at 15 frames per second. It would be unplayable.lisalover1 wrote:I tried a demo kiosk unit at a store today. If you were just trying 3D out someone may have just turned the 3D effect down. Each game has its own 3D intensity sliders which when turned down make the effect barely noticable. What game was it anyways, that could have an effect as well. Auditorium HD for example is really not a game to show of 3D. I could barely see it, but Super Star Dust HD had shit flying at you all over the place, a great display for 3D.
Also, if either of your eyes are damaged in some way you won't see 3D, simply due to the way the tech works.
Re: Playstation 3DTV Display
wait , u need glasses to see the split view thing?
that sucks because 3d glasses ruines the color of the picture or so i noticed when i go to the cinema ?
Since this split view thing works by using 3D , can we see it applied to current 3D tvs on market? And will we ever see 4 screen split view? That would Rock!!

Re: Playstation 3DTV Display
Cinema 3D glasses are complete shit compared to the ones that 3D tvs use. It does have an effect though. Its like wearing a pair of sunglasses, so everything is just slightly darker. I haven't tried yet but I plan on messing with the brightness / contrast settings next time to see if you can make it look normal again. I'll get back to you on that.kingmohd84 wrote:wait , u need glasses to see the split view thing?

Also, since it currently only works with select games (they have to be programmed to output two images at once) I don't think we will see the tech used for TV and movies for quite a while, so it stands to reason that other companies really have no reason to start including Simulview as an option.
As for 4 screen simulview, that is definitly possible. Probably won't happen till games start to hit framerates of 100 at bare minimum. Only time will tell though.
Re: Playstation 3DTV Display
using SimulView for movies will be super fun or funny i think
technically , two people will be together watching different movies, ahhhh goood times.
