This seems to me that its clearly a lens problem so took a cotton swab with a little bit of alcohol, cleaned the lens carefully and dried it with the other tip. It hasn't improved one bit, so want to know your recommendations? should I open up the unit and give a more thorough cleaning on the inside and the lens itself? is this a common sign that the lens is dying?

Sega CD not reading discs
Hello all, have a sega cd model 2 with problems reading an original game, audio discs and cleaning discs. Bought it used and when I tried it the first times it worked great, didn't use it for months and now it takes a lot of time to read disc and when it does finish checking the disc then when you press start it gets stuck reading after game boots and when using an audio cd it get stucked on the audio player.

I was having a similar problem, but it seems that it depends what disk I'm using. It won't play my mint copy of Silpheed, but it will play my scratched as hell copy of Shining Force CD. I don't know whats up. I'm guessing lens issue too, but i don't know. I'd appreciate some tips too.executioner wrote:Hello all, have a sega cd model 2 with problems reading an original game, audio discs and cleaning discs. Just wanna play some Lunar!
I don't think the batteries are rechargable. I relpaced mine and it wasn't too difficult. I couldn't find one with pics but this seemed pretty good.SpaceBooger wrote:My SegaCD's battery died a couple years ago so now I just emulate it on KEGA FUSION so that I could save my progress... I would look into that for a short term fix.
p.s. someone told me I was able to recharge my sega cd battery? is this true because it looks as if it is sodered onto the system.

they are rechargable iirc, it was a lithium-manganese battery like the dreamcast used

But one they die, they never hold saves again no matter how long you leave it plugged in or play it. So you have to replace it to use your internal memory saves. Unless you know of a way to recharge one after it's dies.....SnowKitty wrote:ott0bot wrote:I was having a similar problem, but it seems that it depends what disk I'm using. I started to make a list of lens for different machines. I have compiled this from places I have found online.
I will also be opening up some of my consoles to do some cleaning. I will check the serial numbers as I go.

If anyone has any more system cd lens part numbers, let me know and Ill add them.
