I've been holding off on doing that, aiming for just strategy, but I guess I'll start that tactic.

For the last battle against Dark Dragon here is the strategy I used:
Take out the middle head first since it does the most damage. I usually have 2 healers and 2 mages. Move 3 or so characters and one mage in to attack leaving the other behind out of Dragon's magic range. Leave the others and out of range. After a couple round swap out the attack party heal them and let them handle the skeletons. Each head took about 6 or so round.

The ending was so terrible.

I loved it.

And this marks the first time I've actually finished an RPG. 8)

Sounds like a good one. Little late to the party but I wanna give it a shot.
Looking like I'll have to Emu it.

 I always get so close too. I think after reading some guides I was an hour away from beating KOTOR. Then about 2 hours from finishing Final Fantasy 3 DS.

So I just got started for realz...

So far I dig the music and art style, though the pacing is a little slow for my tastes and I can see getting pretty damn sick of the animations before long. Still, the game has charm, which can carry it a long way. I know as I've read through the thread there's been a lot of strategy discussion, but in the early going there doesn't seem to be much need for it as of yet (granted, I have only had 3 battles so far). Does it get genuinely tricky at any point? The game is set up in chapters, apparently? Do most of you play to the end of a chapter in a sitting?

it does get tricky later, yes. Especially once you have more then 12 characters to choose from to be in yr party for each battle. I've been stuck on the same battle for six tries now. And it's a long battle. Sigh. (I'm in Chapter 6 somewhere).

I'm not sure what's moving slow for you though? It's not much of an exploring game. it's pretty linnear and it's mostly a battle then buystuff/talktopeople/save and then another battle.

The first few chapters I did in a single sitting. But midway through the game the battles start to take a lot longer.
