oXbox never had much appeal in the first place, being in the odd position of a console who's game were more similar to PC games than what console gamers are used to. Right now it's in that sweet spot of being old, but not retro and hip to play, so the games are cheap. Sort of like N64. Except for Star Wars games, they've become expensive oddly enough. I flipped a copy of Battlefront 2 I got on clearance at BestBuy for $5 years ago for $20 on ebay, opened and used.

Only time will tell if oXbox will ever be loved again. Currently, only a very few of us still like the black beast.

this is gonna happen. Its the high/low of life.

It may take a little longer. But the Example exists with the saturn. Back in the day I should have picked up every saturn game I could get my hands on. You all know how much US saturn games are hard to get now.

Back in the early 2000's saturn games were very easy to get. So right now the same could be said for xbox. Give it a few more years and those xbox games will fetch quite a premium.

Yes, but it's got bugs (according to Wikipedia's list).

Honestly, the emulation has enough little quirks here n' there anyway that a few bucks for the original console probably would be worth it. Much like keeping a PSX around even if you have a PS2 or PS3 hooked up, just in case.
Thanks for the Wiki link! There is a lot of red in the compatibility list. Maybe I should get that XBox? Oh man, I already have one monster in the house the Atari 5200, where would I put the XBox?

Conker Live & Reloaded - Tested in the 360
There are no loading screens. Some smoke, dirt, and dust effects are colored differently the pause menu during a multiplayer game operates slower. Intro movies may skip and stutter. Xbox Live online play and features are no longer supported. Console may reset itself after level 2. Rarely, but sometimes sound cuts in and out.
Love the N64 version, I reeeeeally want the XBox Conker! Also CRIMSON SKIES! :?

A friend of mine sold me his XBox, plus like 5 controllers and a few games (which work on the 360) for 10bucks a little while back. The only games for it that don't work on the 360 that I have any interest in are some fighting games (I have SamSho5, looking for a copy of SVC Chaos) but realistically, those games are all available on mame or wherever. I honestly can't think of a single true exclusive (ie not working on the 360) that makes the original xbox worth having.

The original Xbox looks great on a modern HD set for what it's worth. The console also received the best ports of that generation as a general rule. In fact later in the lives of the 6th gen consoles the difference was pretty amazing:

Besides that, the Xbox is great (IMO) for the amount of PC ports it got. I prefer PC style games and I tend to love the Xbox for that reason. It's the best way to play KOTOR and Morrowind from the comfort of your couch.

Did I also mention Sega's outstanding support for the system?

I love my XBox. After games stopped coming out for Dreamcast, XBox was my console of choice last-generation. Great exclusives, a nifty hard drive, and most of the multiplatform titles looked best on XBox. How could you not love it? And unlike most people, I actually think it looks cool. I'd rather have the "X" design than a boring black or grey box. I still play mine.

I would think it would get attention from retro collectors just because it has the best version of many multiplatform games from the last-generation.

And whoever said the best games can be played on 360 is sorely mistaken. The list of compatible original XBox games is painfully small.

Sadly, while the Xbox version looks amazing, it's very censored.

I still love my oXbox. I've actually been considering hooking mine back up soon in place of my 360 for awhile (I only have one tv with component hookups).

Even without the soft mods and all that, I'm still impressed with the system capabilities.

- The large internal 8GB hard drive absolutely destroyed the PS2's meager 8MB memory cards
- Custom soundtracks offers a great addition for all your favorite racing and sports games
- Had the best version of most multi-platform games that were also on PS2 and Gamecube
- Had the best online capabilities of its console generation with Xbox Live
- Dolby Surround, Dolby Digital Live 5.1, and DTS Surround support
- Supported gaming resolutions: 480i, 480p, 576i, 576p, 720p  , 1080i
- Pressure-sensitive controller buttons/triggers
- Built-in ethernet connection
- 4 controller ports

For 2001, I'd say the original Xbox was extremely well-designed and ahead of its time as a home console.

How does the xbox survive as a hardware? is it reliable or does it die very quickly. I got my friend's which used to crash, stop playing, for reasons I didnt understand but it wasnt well taken care of.

How did it do during its time? I was away from the videogames scene back then. I heard of ps2 lovers and Gamecube fans but I know of no cult following for the xbox it seems to be a hated console, although I love the type of games it got. I played many of them on my 360 including Ninja Gaiden Black

I think it had a great following, especially in the US.
