Re: Together Retro: Shining Force
yes, placement is key. Think about each move and try not to waste a move. Like say I go to move Gong and he's nowhere near an enemy. I still think "ok, is he close enough to heal someone that needs healing?" or "Does he have an item that someone else needs close by?" things like that. And of course think about defense. Maybe you have someone with good defense who can be moved to block someone with lesser defense. Things like that. I find winning battles is much easier if yr certain that you're not throwing a move away.

Got owned in the first battle of chapter 3, guess I should level up a bit with this battle. There's Dark Mages, Skeletons, and nasty Archers all around. I like how the enemies always seem to have a huge advantage with the map.

Re: Together Retro: Shining Force
in most cases, it benefits you to focus on one or two enemies at a time. Gang up on them. Make a little circle of death around them using strong dudes up front, and long rangers a space behind. It's also good to prioritize who needs to die first. Get rid of mages right away if you can -- they can hit multiple Shining Forcers with their attacks, AND they can heal other enemies.Xeogred wrote:Got owned in the first battle of chapter 3, guess I should level up a bit with this battle. Oh I've beaten Tactics Ogre (SNES), probably the hardest SRPG ever... haha. I usually know what I'm doing here, but yeah I'm starting to think my characters are lagging behind and need to catch up, I should've grinded a bit before this battle. Luke for instance just hit level 10 and can almost one shot these Skeletons, then other characters a few levels below him only dish out a few points of damage. I always try to balance out who gets the kills and stuff, but I may have gotten in a mess with this battle. Haha.

Re: Together Retro: Shining Force
one thing I've done in an effort to grind a bit is just always plan to kill all enemies in a battle. So if the point of the battle is just "kill this one guy" or "get Max to the bridge," I still just aim to kill all the other enemies before I bother to win the battle.
Re: Together Retro: Shining Force
Same here. I guess some battles can end if you take out "X boss" or something? I wonder if the Marionette fight was like that... but yeah I clean out the house! lol.
Re: Together Retro: Shining Force
just beat that one. the birds weren't a big help but my mages were in hitting multiple targets. lost 4 guys with arthur being an early exit yet again. what level are your guys? mine are around 9 with mages around 7 or 8.Xeogred wrote:Got owned in the first battle of chapter 3, guess I should level up a bit with this battle. Let's see, going down my list and who I was using in that battle:stickem wrote:just beat that one. the birds weren't a big help but my mages were in hitting multiple targets. lost 4 guys with arthur being an early exit yet again. what level are your guys? mine are around 9 with mages around 7 or 8.Xeogred wrote:Got owned in the first battle of chapter 3, guess I should level up a bit with this battle. Xeo - 7
Mae - 6
Arthur - 4
Gort - 7
Luke - 10
Anri - 6
Tao - 8
Lowe - 5
Gong - 5
Diane - 8
Amon - 5
Balb - 6
I should probably level up, haha. Sounds like it was a miracle I beat Marionette. Ken is level 7 so I wonder if I should switch out Mae or Arthur with him for now, plus his HP is really high. Defense isn't amazing though.
I think it'll be easy to get my mages levels throughout, but yeah it's been a pain trying to get Arthur some kills and stuff.

i dropped ken for mae, put a spear in her hand and she's becoming a powerhouse. left arthur in from everyone saying he's good after leveling him up. i haven't really leveled any. died twice from the get go in the first battle and in that church in 2nd chapter. only battles i've replayed.
