Re: Video Game "Finds of the Day"
A rare double whammy today, two Goodwill's, both 50% Saturday, both yielded vintage games. Nothing too exciting, but better than leaving empty handed.
First stop: one dirty original Super Mario Bros. cart with a bad label, NHL 95 and 97 for Genesis, both CIB, and the best find of the day, World of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck for Genesis, boxed, but no manual.
Second stop: Two loose copies of Mario Paint for SNES, along with loose NES Tetris and Double Dribble carts. The latter NES carts had languished there the past few weeks, I had copies already so left them there previously, but snatched them up because of half off day. Less than $9 for everything.

Yeah, good deal eh?Breetai wrote:
US$4 is awesomenessasaurus. Did it all work fine? Any bad scratches? Did you also find hookups and controllers in the junk bin?
I'm sure you'll find some decent CD games around for cheap. Sonic CD, Final Fight, Bari-Arm, Musha Aleste (whatever the MCD version of Robo Aleste is called), Soul Star, Silpheed and even the MCD version of Earnest Evans are all cool games you need. None should be much higher than 2000yen in any shop, if you look around (or 105yen if you luck out in junk bins!).
I think there were only maybe 18 32X games released in Japan. The 32X versions of Virtua Racing, Space Harrier and After Burner are all very nice, and I find them better than the Saturn versions since there is no load times on them.
Unfortunately I wasnt able to get the cable that connects the 32X to the Mega Drive with it, so I havent been able to test that yet (though the basic Mega Drive works fine). I`m hoping it might be buried somewhere in the same junk pile I found the first one in. I really want to get it workign because they have all of those games you just mentioned (Space Harrier, After Burner, Virtua Racing) and a few others for quite cheap. I havent been able to test the Mega CD either as I don`t have any games for it, but I`ll be picking up a couple of those next time I hit the store!

You could see if the Mega CD at least boots to the start-up screen. And does the Mega CD play audio CDs? (I can't remember, but I think the American Sega CD does). You could try popping in one and seeing if it responds. That's how I tested my PC Engine Duo, as I wasn't able to get games until months after I bought the system.senseiman wrote:I havent been able to test the Mega CD either as I don`t have any games for it, but I`ll be picking up a couple of those next time I hit the store!

The CED disc has two tabs inside the lip at the corners. If you are curious how fine the "LP Record" is inside you can hold them in and slide it out.Hobie-wan wrote:Been at Arcade Expo 2011 all day. Mostly playing games, but here's what I picked up.
The Qix marquee is actually a glass one. Admittedly I'm not a Moon Patrol superfan, but I've always loved the artwork on the marquee. I should probably make them into nerdy lamps. Two shirts. The Yellowbeard is a CED, not a laserdisk. It is completely useless to me as a movie, but I picked it up for the novelty since it is full of Monty Python members.
Nice Arcade Marquees, great authentic frame art for the game room.

Ocarina 64 for 2.29
I normally wouldn't buy art books, but these were cool. Some art books by Luis Royo and some others that were called spectrum, hardcovers for a buck each. They featured some of the coolest art I have ever seen. I highly suggest looking them up on the internet and checking em out. Also, I couldn't resist buying something that said printed in Spain LOL.
Lastly I got Road Runner published by Mindscape, from 1987 on 5 1/4 floppy. Complete in box too, a whole dollar LOL.
